Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x10 - "New Life and New Civilizations"

There's a certain level of irony to the bio-essentialist argument for this episode because she's Illyrian/Gorn/Human not by birth but by genetic engineering. So destiny is absolutely alterable. It's probably why I didn't have much of an issue with Four and A Half Vulcans because they're Vulcans...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x10 - "New Life and New Civilizations"

I think the biggest thing is the Vezda are told to be horrifyingly evil every single scene but we never actually see them doing...horrifying evil. Yeah, they kill a few guys. I mean it's TERRIBLE when I say, "Star Trek Online did this so much better." (I don't dislike Star Trek Online but...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x10 - "New Life and New Civilizations"

I imagine that the child they had being an illusion or popping out of existence is only going to make events even more horrifyingly traumatizing for Chris.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x10 - "New Life and New Civilizations"

I am usually a big fan of Star Trek mythologizing as it did in Deep Space Nine. However, them talking about the Vezda being the evil that predates the concept evil is complete nonsense. This is also one of the most classic "Chosen One" stories and those are pretty terrible without a twist. Even...

    Strange New Worlds disappointment

I take note that a lot of people argue the definition of gimmick versus the point that the characters feel stuck and lacking development. :) But yes, fair enough, poor choice of words. Still, it feels like the season has changed somehow.

    Strange New Worlds disappointment

I define gimmick as being focused around a overt concept versus character interaction. It doesn't have to be a bad episode but a musical is a gimmick episode versus an episode about exploring the characters or world of Trek. And yes, Space Adventure Hour is a gimmick of not only a holodeck...

    Strange New Worlds disappointment

There's something very weird about Season 3. Season 1 and 2 had very clear character arcs for Pike, Spock, Una, and La'an. They were about dealing with future destinies, hidden pain, and struggling to become more than they were. And Season 3....doesn't do any of that. It's like they suddenly...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x09 - "Terrarium"

Much like them "homaging" Omelas, if you rip off good sci-fi then you'll at least do better than ripping off bad scifi. Which is a pretty backhanded compliment but a compliment nonetheless. 6/10

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I mean in the episode they say Vulcans feel emotions stronger than humans.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I actually do like the retcon with Sam Kirk. In this version of the timeline, James and Sam may not be bossom buddies, but they make attempts to hang out and stay in touch when they can. The previous timeline acted like they hadn't seen each other in decades.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

...is perfectly valid on this as a transwoman and Trek analyst. But for me, I felt this resonated strongly with my neuroatypical experiences. I *DO* inherently see the world differently from the mainstream and I've also suffered from the fact that I can't do things that other people can do...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

He mentions La'an specifically to Scotty when coming onboard and the latter has to go, "She's uh not available."

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Unless they confirm it does, I assume this is just her hallucination of it from a space station.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I mean the episode is about how being human is not inferior to Vulcan even if they have better abilities. Which is the point. Being smarter or stronger is not better. Because what makes a person valuable is not how efficient or powerful or strong. Its a great anti-abelism message. And yes...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Jessie seemed to have been completely unable to engage with the premise beyond its opening TBH. La'an absolutely does NOT let it define her as she chooses not to be that way. Or to put it simply, "Spock has a half-dozen episodes and scenes where he's influenced by spores, time travel, or his...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I love La'an's gooey interior under her hard warrior shell. Dancing saves her. Her "happy place" is Cetacean ops.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

In a bit of a tragedy, the implications are seemingly that Kirk and Carol are ALREADY on the outs due to the fact he seems to be on the Enterprise for a hook up with La'an. Which means that he gave up his chance with La'an for a relationship that was a complete disaster.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I think the episode has an interesting abelism metaphor despite the fact that rarely has been touched on since Geordi in TNG. It also was clearly a gimmick episode that existed purely to justify the cast acting like Vulcan stereotypes for an hour (and notes that the actual Vulcans are NOT...

Doug calls Spock human and Vulcan, which was a cool thing.
