"You men will only be risking your lives, whilst I will be risking an almost certain Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor."
Truer words were never spoken.
Tell me about it. The format I watch old shows in is on mp4 broadcast over my analog station. That means I need to have the physical file. Many shows just aren't available except through streaming platforms which means you have to watch it their way or not at all. You never get to own the show...
Haha! If you're going to go through all that trouble, why not just join us?
On the other hand, it's kind of fun both of us watching in "different markets".
No arguments.
It's always fun to spot Trek actors right after their appearance on the show (sometimes even in the same week!)
Barbara Luna is no stranger to Desilu productions, having been on M:I last year and "Mirror, Mirror" just two weeks ago. Now, here she is on Tarzan, aired last night (10-20-1967):
I've just finished the sixth episode of the second season of Star Trek in the Galactic Journey's weekly watching. Over the past ~35 episodes, I've started to notice the particular touches of each director: Pevney is somewhat staid and stagey. Daniels is more dramatic and innovative.
Looking...
For sure. We only know that Moreau relied on being someone's woman.
I appreciated Erica's take on the episode. She argues that Uhura had it better in the Mirrorverse than the average woman did in the 60s.
Yes, very similar. The fun thing about blind systems is you can introduce more bluff and roleplay. There are also broader possibilities. For instance, I once ran a game with four ships, and they all assumed they'd be 2x2 or something. Instead, it was actually four against four NPCs.
Another...
We played a better version of the episode in a game of Star Fleet Battles once. We were using a system whereby there were people at the game board (navigators) and people in isolated rooms (captains). This way, fog of war was maintained.
I was captain of a destroyer escort, kind of a TOS...
In 1967, the Trekzines, the membership of the Trek fanclubs (mainly Nimoy fanclubs), were overwhelmingly women. The BNFs, from Kay Anderson to Ruth Berman to Juanita Coulson to Bjo Trimble were women. The people who put together the first (big) Trek con in 1973 were all women. Fanfic was almost...
And to be fair, I'm a guy, and the two poopooers are guys. Women dug Spock, and women comprised the majority of Trek fandom (at least, it sure seems that way) so it's no surprise the two Spock eps were rated so highly. All my fellow (female) travelers at the Journey loved that episode, too.
Some pretty savage reviews of "Amok Time" in the latest issue of Yandro:
In response to a savaging of "Miri", Buck Coulson says:
You managed to see the worst STAR TREK episode of the entire first season. (Though I must say the first two shows this season probably didn't do a lot to improve...
Definitely don't think DeSalle's place in the line is at all hinted at in Season One. But it is true that we never see Sulu give DeSalle an order (or vice versa). In fact, DeSalle is definitely the man of uncertain role. Is he like Riley? Written as different characters, but since it's the same...
What's interesting is Nomad was launched in 2002 and almost certainly some kind of faster than light. Otherwise, how could it have met up with Tan Ru any appreciable distance from Earth.
Unless Warp drive was developed significantly after FTL. It's already established in the series that one...
That worked so well for the Discovery...
Anyway, I'll stake money Marla meant interstellar journeys, not interplanetary ones.
Besides, look how many of Khan's crew died in transit. Sorry, not taking that risk. Sure, it might have been the length of time they were under... but then again, it...
You are conflating the two quotes, made in different contexts, and reaching a flawed conclusion.
Not all DY-100s were sleeper ships. In fact, the Botany Bay may be the only one. But up through 2018, there were enough sleeper ships that McGivers was able to recognize the genre of ship, and it...
