OK, I hear your opinion.
Just our of curiosity, could you give an example of a nuanced moral situation that has more than one side that may both be valid and is intellectually vigorous to explore the idea of?
It seems like you agree that this is an interesting question that deserves more than a one sentence answer: "Murder and torture = bad." Thank you for a well written response.
I think there's an interesting argument to be made that there are lines that can not be crossed, because it opens up...
I feel like this is a more complex and interesting question than you're giving it credit for.
Circling back around to the trolley dilemma, when faced with an out of control trolley that will surely kill 10 people if you do. You pull the breaks, but nothing happens. Your only option to save them...
It's kind of funny, but I don't really mind the issues they have with canon here. I guess there's two things that have informed my feels. First, do I like the characters and the story being told? Then it's fine if the story has some errors. Secondly, do the storytellers care about the previous...
Going on the topic of consent. I'll buy that the sacrificed child does not give consent. However, do the other children and people of that society give their consent for disease, famine, poverty, abuse, and all the other things the sacrificed child is preventing?
Obviously not. Would anyone...
The Federation is huge. There aren't some planets within the Federation that are completely utopian? That also doesn't account for sickness too. The alien civilization has figured all of that out.
I rather like that La'an breaks the rules in this regard. Probably an unpopular opinion, but...
Very young. By the looks of it, under 10.
In exchange for the suffering and life of one child every few years, there's no pain or suffering in the entirety of the society. There's no illness, no poverty, no want. For the life and suffering of one child there are no children who go hungry, or...
That's true. It's never an equal decision. There's almost always a right side. However there's a gulf of difference between the DS9's union forming episode where Rom is a hero in every way while Quark's anti-union efforts are simple greed and villainy. You can't give one valid reason why a union...
You guys never noticed how TNG would give multiple viewpoints on different topics and issues in contrast to DS9(Picard and Disco) where they give one viewpoint and the other viewpoint is just cartoonish villainy.
I loved this episode. It really reminds me of the old TNG era where people would have differences of opinion and give their ideas on them in order to let the viewer decide. The dichotomy between sacrificing the child for the well being of everyone and having many people in small amounts of...
Janeway had some really awesome moments. Especially in the early seasons. I'm thinking the Tuvix episode where the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few, sorry Tuvix. Or the times she'd show a strong and firm side while also a feminine empathy and warmness while chewing out someone...
I like how this show has very attractive looking actors and actresses. I'm reminded of something Jolene Blalock once said, it was something to the effect that sex appeal makes a good show better, but sex can not carry bad writing.
All the main characters in this show look good. I like looking...
I can tell you why people don't like it. I was one of those people. Still am actually.
Many of the actors were really bad. The writing was boring and convoluted. A lot of it was nonsensical. Bakula makes for a good single father, but not so much a captain. Lazy cost saving 3 parter episodes.
I strongly agree with most of your rant except for this. Q isn't trying to create a fascist dictatorship on Earth. He's just creating a game for Picard to play so Picard can deal with his mommy and daddy issues. With that plot point being ridiculously ham fisted into the narrative and was...
If there were 20-25 episodes per season, sure, a few time travel throwaway episodes are fine. If it's 10-20% of the season, no way.
How many times can we see the same story 'the future isn't set in stone?' Personally, I think it's more interesting to have to deal with your own personal choices...
Wesley showing up was just so random. They basically threw him in there for fan service. "You know that fan theory about him becoming a traveler? Yeah, bro, it's true. See this random scene?"
That said I echo the previous commenters' post.
NO! No more time travel crap!
They're the least...
Wow, I'm surprised by how many people really liked the ending.
It didn't disappoint me since my expectations were so low, but I wouldn't call it amazing.
I've defended Picard season 1. I found it mostly inoffensive and as an overall product it was pretty good. It's not TNG, it's not classic Star Trek, but it was alright.
But season 2, geeze laweeze. One nice thing I can say is that it wasn't bad in the Discovery sense where it irritates me...
