What would be a deal breaker for you in Discovery?

In Enterprise related to the Borg, they did the single story line in the episode, "Regeneration," by going through story line hoops as to not have them identify themselves. In any case, for me, the Borg and to a lesser degree the Ferengi are way over used story arcs.

What would be a deal breaker for you in Discovery?

For me, it would be if they try to do a rinse repeat on some of the same story lines. E.g. I'm really hoping they do not bring back the Borg.

    Consolidated Trailer Thread

Agreed. Every new addition to the franchise won't be perfect in the outset. Who can forget, "Angel One," or "Code of Honor," in TNG's first season. They are both IMO virtually unwatchable today. Shit, Code of Honor is even outright racist and misogynist. Moreover, as a fan favorite of...

The Man in the High Castle season 2

I remember reading some where that the Reich Chancellery - the super dome - was untenable as a realistic design for the single reason that its size and when too many people were inside the building - would create humidity and likely rain inside the building. Regarding the other person's...

The Crown - Netflix - Outstanding

Saw this today. Disappointing that they didn't exactly tell the whole truth with this but dramatized it to make Elizabeth to look like the bad person: Margaret calls it off not Lizzy

Spoilers Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: Discussion Thread

True. It isn't only him though. Many of the characters throughout Potter lore seem to only use teleportation powers when the story-line calls on it. Just a nitpick.

Spoilers Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: Discussion Thread

I liked it - B +. It doesn't seem to have the grandiosity that the Potter films did though. We'll see. Can someone explain to me why the magical are forced to take steamships/trains/cars etc. to travel when they have the ability to teleport themselves anywhere?

The Crown - Netflix - Outstanding

One story-line I thought was interesting that was under dramatized by the show. In the series Winston Churchill's portrait was hated by him but it fails to tell the real life salacious story on how he got a hold of it. Apparently in real life, Lady Churchill has the portrait stolen in the dark...

Christian doctrine permits even divorced people to remarry so long as the former spouse is dead. Diana was dead when Charles married Camilla. Hence Margaret's mistake was to not have had Peter Townsend's first wife murdered.

True, but I thought re-marriage was the issue related to the church? You can get divorced under Christian doctrine, just not remarried. Charles waited until after Diana's death to marry Camilla.

I forgot about Camilla. Albeit, she is easy to forget about. I re-watched the final episode last night and it really is poignant if even somewhat historically accurate. You have Margaret, devastated that her sister would break a promise that she made to her and both to their father of always...

Question. Could Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle who quite ironically is an American divorcee herself? Or would the Queen be put in the same circumstance she was with her sister Margaret some 50 years ago?

At the risk of De-evolving this thread into a political conversation, I'm not sure we have it much better. All you have to do is look at Southern US states who have enacted, "religious freedom laws," that on the guise of protecting Christians from gay people actually discriminate against them...

Movie scenes that freaked you out.

Exorcist III wherein the old woman pulls out surgical sheers and attempts to behead the young woman. I had to walk out of the theater.

The Crown - Netflix - Outstanding

For me at least, it's easier to feel compassion and sorry for people like the Queen or even Margaret as depicted in the series because they were born into fame and had no choice about the consequences of the paparazzi. I have less sympathy for other famous people e.g. the Kardashians who have...

The Crown - Netflix - Outstanding

Not to stray too far off point, but I have to wonder how shows like this translate into more subscribers. In other words, at what point does Netflix reach market saturation and can no longer afford to add new programming without commercials?

The Crown - Netflix - Outstanding

Cultcross, however you see in the series Margaret wrestle with whether to leave, "The Crown," or not. She could have just as easily left all of the trappings of living a privileged life to marry Townsend. If accurate - she stayed because of her loyalty to her sister or self interest. The...

The Crown - Netflix - Outstanding

One of the most fascinating scenes for me as an American was Elizabeth's Coronation. I guess I never realized the mystical side of the whole process. The transformation of the heir into the Queen who I assume like the Pope has a direct link to God.

Thanks both for the replies. As CultCross notes, love them or hate them - the royal family is depicted with their faults and strengths. Also, of particular note the heavy burden these people have on them. However, it's hard to be sorry for anyone who lives such a privileged life no matter...
