    Faction Paradox Appreciation Thread

"VNAs" has been the acronym used by most of the fandom, as well as the authors themselves, for the last fifteen years to better differentiate between the New Adventures (NAs) and New Series Adventures (NSAs) in conversation. VNAs, EDAs and NSAs are much easier to tell apart...

Virgin New Adventures. The ones actually labeled New Adventures (published by Virgin). It's used to diffrentiate them from the BBC Books unbranded ranges.

I haven't read all the FP books, but I have them all so far. Great stuff. What are VNAs? I have a lot of NAs, some of which have NA right on the cover.

Has the Doctor been a Woman before?

It's not about who did it first, it's about what overexposed me to the point that I got tired of it. So if anything, it's about who did it the most recently, because we've gotten it constantly these past few years and I want a change of pace now.

Has the Doctor been a Woman before?

For the most part, I got the feeling that 9 and 10 were just travelers, doing their best to save those in trouble. Most mythology surrounding them was based on their actions. 11 on the other hand got turned into Time Lord Jesus. Don't know about the earlier instances.

Has the Doctor been a Woman before?

Wasn't it the RTD era that started that? And if you wanna get real technical, then the EDAs before it. And the VNAs. And Cartmel before even that.

    Best Book?

Dead Romance by Lawrence Miles. If it counts ;). Get in to the VNAs. There are a few unambitious writers that essentially just write novelisations of unaired serials, but people like Paul Cornell, Kate Orman, Marc Platt, Ben Aaronovitch and Jim Mortimore did superb work and stretched the...

7X10 Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS(Grading/Discussion)(SPOILERS)

Re: 7X10 Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS(Grading/Discussion)(SPOIL Well put! :bolian: It would be amusing if Moffat put a weird twist to all this by having Clara's mom or dad be River's kid by the Doctor. What with one Clara having the same birthday as the start of the series and being the...

7X10 Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS(Grading/Discussion)(SPOILERS)

...mention in The End of Time to the Master's father. So, while I have enjoyed certain aspects of the Masterplan, both in the McCoy era and the VNAs and wouldn't mind some of those threads picked up, I am not a fan of the Looms and the convoluted explanation of Susan's relationship to the...

    Favourite Doctor?

He's not as much of an actor as them, he's more of a physical performer - closer, ironically, to the Pertwee mould in that sense... Cartmel's vision to some degree, Darvill-Evans and Levene's visions, but not JNT's light-entertainment vision... (trust me on this, I was there from the start!)

    Favourite Doctor?

...the purest Doctor mould, as opposed to say, The Doctor running around snogging girls and crying all the time in slow motion. I don't think there's much difference really. Andrew Cartmel's vision of what the show could do is absolutely the driving force of the VNAs even though he's not in...

    Favourite Doctor?

...I'm thinking of, I think he said the Seventh Doctor works better as literary character than on TV. I disagree as I love both, but he's said the VNAs are his favorite era of Who. Yeah, both clearly adore the Seventh, which is why a story like Human Nature (the novel) works so well. It's...

Ghost Light - What the hell is going on?

...interested in filling in some gap of the show and bringing back some obscure character (mind you, there's a ton of those in DW lit too). The VNAs ARE the continuation of the show for me. The beginning and end of the novelization range were excellent. At the beginning, writers like Malcolm...

Ghost Light - What the hell is going on?

...franchise. The novelizations are generally mediocre with a few classics (Ben Aaronovitch's Remembrance of the Daleks is top dollar!) but the VNAs and EDAs are outstanding ranges. If we're talking bad Doctor Who books, The Eight Doctors is utter jizz-covered shit. Terrance Dicks is a sacred...

Ghost Light - What the hell is going on?

...If Ghost Light is confusing (Which it isn't!), it's because the story was shortened by one episode with late notice. Also, Marc Platt is a great writer. His Cybermen audio Spare Parts makes Rise of the Cybermen look utterly amateurish. Also, Lungbarrow is a great novel. One of my favourite VNAs.

The Life And Scandalous Times Of John Nathan-Turner

I'm glad the series ended on as much of a high as it did and glad that we got the VNAs, my favorite tie-in novels ever, to continue where S26 left off. Not that I would complain if someone showed me an amazing S27 from an alt. universe, of course. Agreed.
