^ I understand what you are saying, what I am suggesting is that in the intervening 25 years since he did Star Trek he may have understood more about what Roddenberry was going for in TMP and TNG. Either he realises this or he discovers it because of other people on the production team who would...
I am not worried about the look etc. Lets not get annoyed with the aesthetics and minutiae of timelines and stardates and LCARS or Warp Speed transit times.
The thing to think about are the people involved. Nick Meyer being the main guy. He knows Trek, he gets it. He knows the soul of Trek...
Perhaps the clash of the old guard and the new can create something that satisfies everyone, from those who only desire fan service to those who desire something new. :)
I think that the CBS execs will push for sex, violence, 'splosions, "Star Trek Wars" - but what I was getting at is that if the old guard are still able to infuse enough of the original 'essence' of Trek into the show then it might actually be ok and then gradually we fans collectively can steer...
I think enough of the old guard came onboard early on to ensure that any creative interference from the higher ups at CBS will not ruin the show.
I have the feeling that the first season will be a bumpy ride - if that is the case we have to make our concerns known and then it'll get better...
Lets face it, Roddenberry Sr would've jumped 20ft in elation at the opportunity of putting naked aliens on some sex planet.
If the showrunners know their Trek then I propose Deltans as the naked aliens :P
I for one am glad that the Chinese have finally made it into Star Trek in a big way, now we need India etc to join in.
It was an annoyance of mine that Starfleet was overwhelmingly white but I understood that it was purely because Trek was shot in California and had a pool of actors to pull...
What is a fan film anyway?
Something self funded and shot in ones garage? Or multi-million crowdfunded productions that pay actors and build sets? They have stretched the meaning of a fan film to beyond breaking point.
Why would CBS have communications with AXANAR only to shut them down later? This must mean they where on 'good' terms at one stage but at some point those relations turned sour or went silent... ?
Do CBS communicate with the other productions? What are they saying to them?
Perhaps CBS had some...
I have a passing interest in this fan film, the others thus far have not really 'captured' my imagination/attention.. but Axanar did because it looked well made, almost professional.
I have checked out the progress every so often and looked forward to eventually watching it, so I was...
My two penneth;
It looks fun, entertaining and action packed. What more do you want?
Choice of music is better than Inception pwwwwannng trailers we get nowadays!
I would *love* to rejoin the prime universe 15 years post Nemesis and deal with:
Aftermath of Dominion War
Cardassians in disarray (join the Feds?)
Romulan catastrophe aftermath, what happens to them?
A new threat?
A new form of propulsion for exploration purposes?
Wormhole to another galaxy...
Oh and no analysing and worrying about TV ratings! We won't know about the ratings but we will hear about how the new Star Trek will be putting CBS All-Access on the map and we can hear about how subscribers have gone up and so on, also less interference and not having to go up against rival...
Prime Universe or not I am just looking forward to a Star Trek TV show that is not operating on the constraints set by Rick Berman and his co-producers.
I think Rick Berman did produce some great Star Trek but I got sick and tired of it toward the end. This is not a rant against Rick Berman...
$500m isn't too much of a stretch considering STID only just fell short and the international market keeps on expanding with China in particular going from strength to strength.
The script is the most critical component imho and I am sure Lin has the ability to shoot whatever script he ends up...
I think a Trek movie needs a bit more breathing room than your average blockbuster so I'm all for it being moved to August, March or November personally. No more May!
