    Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

The left didn't invent cancel culture; it was originally called excommunication, disfellowship and shun.

    Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

For years, many conservatives have been free speech absolutists and refused to be involved in cancel culture. But taking the moral high ground achieved nothing. Many were losing their jobs for social media posts that offended the far left. Most of these posts did not glorify violence, they just...

Spoilers Marvel Cinematic Universe spoiler-heavy speculation thread

Unless the public and celebrity uproar succeeds and Disney finds a spine again. They already released a statement saying that they're going to talk with Kimmel about finding a "path" to put him back on the air. Sounds like they already realize they made a mistake.

Spoilers Marvel Cinematic Universe spoiler-heavy speculation thread

Don't expect to see She-Hulk again. Maslany has burnt her bridges by encouraging people to cancel Disney+ because of Jimmy Kimmel's cancellation.

    Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Jimmy Kimmel falsely claimed that Tyler Robinson was MAGA, even though all the evidence points to him being a left wing extremist. I don't know if that qualifies as slander under American law, since it's directed at a movement instead of a person. But either way, it's a bold-faced lie. So I'm...

...now among those crying about decency and decorum when it was they themselves who helped get rid of these ideas. Meanwhile, the Kimmel cancellation is just the most prominent case, there is a whole website dedicated to doxing private citizens for their free speech. Regular people have lost...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

In truth, even letter-writing campaigns rarely actually save a show from cancellation, since what makes the difference to a network is whether advertisers are willing to invest in a show, not whether a few thousand viewers like it enough to write their opinions down. Gene Roddenberry played up...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

I find it a bit strange that the showrunners or producers need fans to convince Paramount to greenlight a show. I'd expect the producers to do their job and come up with such a strong pitch that Paramount wouldn't have a choice but to say yes. I'm totally on board with writing letters to save a...

News Jimmy Kimmel Show "Removed" Indefinitely

First off, all those headlines are terribly misleading. The "offending" comments were not really about Charlie Kirk, but about MAGA reacting to it, as well as playing a clip of Trump's own reaction. That's it. It wasn't talking bad of the dead, which itself would also be free speech, but showing...

And the Next Cancelled Show is...

This is sort of the opposite of Paramount. Nexstar has to get the FCC to waive existing rules about percentages of market share in order to get the merger approved. Legally they shouldn't get approved. Paramount had a uncomplicated merger get held up.

News Jimmy Kimmel Show "Removed" Indefinitely

I'm no fan of Jimmy Kimmel's comedy but this is both disgusting and terrifying. I hope Colbert doesn't hold back in his own monologue when he reacts this news. He hasn't been pulling his punches since his definitely-politically-motivated-cancelation so I hope he continues to hit hard on shit...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

P+ can do what Netflix is now doing with Stranger Things's final season -- blow it up into a major media event. Not outside the realm of possibility given that P+'s new CEO Cindy Holland used to work for Netflix.

This is ridiculous. https://deadline.com/2025/09/nexstar-jimmy-kimmel-charlie-kirk-1236547382/ https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/nexstar-jimmy-kimmel-abc-charlie-kirk-1236522584/ It's believed the ulterior motive behind the suspension is due to Nexstar being in the process of trying to get...

    Spoilers Wednesday (Addams) Netflix Show

It's always weird to me when people talk about things that were always normal in TV as if they were somehow unique to the streaming era. It's always been the case that only a minority of shows get as much as three seasons, and getting five or more is exceptional. The reason the 1980s-90s Star...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

Please point out where I blamed executives for killing shows. CBS is canceling SNW, however they choose to do it, as is their right, as they own the property. And they are clearly not interested in continuing with a new show along the same vein.

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

I would think it self-evident that that proves they did not want to cancel it "as soon as possible." On the contrary, they chose to extend it as much as they could justify. And my point is that it is erroneous to cast executive decisions in terms of what they want or are interested in. It's not...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

Are you unaware of the circumstances? CBS was ready to cancel SNW after season 4. But the producers still needed time to end the show properly, so CBS gave them a two hour movie in lieu of S5. The producers begged with them to give them more, because two hours still wasn’t enough. So CBS...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

No, because if they were interested in ending it as soon as possible, they wouldn't have approved season 5 at all. I'll never understand people who think that all network/studio decisions are only about what the executives want to do. Making television is not free. You can only do it if...

Wouldn't hold my breath. Saving on fees, more creative freedom... Or they could have just undone the cancellation of SNW.
