Yeah. I didn't want to believe it at first, you know, because there have been hoaxes in the past. It was the Variety article that nailed the reality of it for me.

    Terrible news.

He was incredibly talented. I will always remember him from The World According to Garp, my favorite of his films.

    RIP

I want it to be a bad joke, but it's not. Interestingly enough, or not, it was Wil Wheaton's FB post that started it. He mentioned Robin in passing, and someone said it was a hoax. Always one to check for myself, I started looking up news articles. At that time, the EW article had just posted, but that wasn't enough. It was when Variety, followed by Fox News, and then CNBC that I knew it was real, because that's how bad news trickles in, and then that cold feeling on the back of my neck wouldn't go away.

One of the greatest comedians ever. Definitely the best improv. So many great films of his that keep coming to mind, not only his serious acting roles but his comedy films and the films that were great because of his voice acting. My family grew up with him all the way down to my youngest nephew who loves 'Happy Feet'.

The thing I loved best was him just being himself in interviews, so funny, so unstoppable. If only he could have brought as much joy to himself as he did to us.

DPS is quite good. I'm not sure if it can be considered one of his earlier pure drama roles, but it's a good performance.

Damn. This one is hard to process. I still remember when "Mork and Mindy" was appointment viewing for all of us kids.

Depression is a serious illness. I know, because I have been struggling with it for my entire life. Unfortunately, many people do not consider it to be a legitimate illness, and these are often the people that are closest to us and that we rely on for support. You would never tell someone with cancer or a heart condition to just snap out of it.

I will have to see it, then. :)

Agreed. I suffer from it, and sometimes it scares me. To hear that one of the greatest comedians of our generation has become the latest victim just jars me to the core.

    From memory:

(improvising a mashup of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Three Mile Island) "The president hath the brains of a piss-ant, my lord!!"

(supposedly recalling WWIII generations later) "... that was the night Carter came on the air and said, "Thank y'all very much. Y'all on y'own, good night."

I got the impression he didn't like President Carter much.

(Same character) "... people are like flowers. It's been a pleasure walking in the garden. My love goes with you."

This one hits me hard. He was a massive part of my childhood. From Aladdin, to Mrs. Doubtfire, to Hook, and even reruns of Mork and Mindy on Nick at Night. I didn't know the man personally, but the impact his work had on my life cannot be ignored. I feel as though I have lost a friend, today.
