Hey everyone, besides being a member at the TrekBBS, I've also been a member for many years at Flare Sci-Fi Forums. Many people here have contacted me about joining Flare, but we've had some problems in the past with spam attacks and we had to close new registrations. Well, I've talked to one of the mods there and he has agreed to open registrations for a 24 hour period, starting 8 August 0000 ADT through to 9 August 0000 ADT. So in that time, feel free to register at Flare, and tell all your friends! ;)

(I posted this in the Tech forum because that's mostly what we at Flare discuss, but don't let that keep you from registering if you have an interest. Tech stuff is just our specialty, but we can talk about anything.)

I was a member of Flare before joining this BBS, but the posting there dwindled to the point it was no longer interesting.

Okay, so, I'm a bit of an idiot and forgot to open up registrations! So, instead of the original window I'll open them up.. 2200 ADT 8 August through to 0000 ADT 10 August. Sorry for the mixup!

And for those of you that were members before if you remember your username and/or registration email I should be able to reset your password and send it to you.

Tried twice, no go. Found out that my old membership was banned (wow), I did wonder about two things, in the registration process there was 'Disable Graemlins' by default?" what is a graemlins?

    Also why no free emails?

If, by "no free emails", you mean things like Hotmail, Yahoo, & the like, it's because those have traditionally been the choices of spammers & bots to do registrations.

    Graemlins are smilies.

Kaiser, you have been unbanned and I sent an email with your password (in case you forgot). :)

T'Girl, not sure why your account was also banned but if you let me know your email address I can unban you as well. :)

I just now attempted to send you a private message, was informed

Fabrux has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

Please understand I don't wish to openly post my email address.

    Thanks.

So...to date there have been only two legitimate registrations. The spam bots aren't gushing in like I'd thought so I'll keep the registrations open for now. As started above, we don't generally allow free email addresses; this was implemented back in the beginnings of the forum (1999) when spam bots exclusively used freemail addresses. These days, they just make up their own addresses and most people don't even have a non-freemail address; I myself don't have one currently. If you are attempting to register and get an error message, send me an email at kataranga@gmail.com and I will register an account for you.

Yay, mine still works for the one time a year I might post!

Flare was THE hotbed for Trek Tech discussions during the glory days of Trek Fandom during the late 90s and early 00s. I'm very proud to have posted weekly tech overviews and discussion threads, often spoiler filled as my local Canadian channel often got a new episode before the Americans for some reason.

One of my more memorable posts was for an Enterprise episode airing April 1st, where I posted an extensive "review" of the show where they supposedly introduced photon torpoedos, an earpiece for Hoshi, tons of TNG and TOS references, and T'Pol using the Vulcan neck pinch in an otherwise tech-lite episode. Fooled the guys for hours, that did. :)

To toot my own horn, those threads and many others are still there and searchable. I still do that from time to time - thanks to Faboo Fabrux for keeping it there!

I'm going to have to change my email address at this and other forums I frequent. I used to have an old icqmail account for all those things (to mitigate spamming, etc.) but it looks like the Russians might have hacked it and the fucksticks at AOL have not bothered to notice and/or care. >sigh<

Jim, let me know if Flare won't let you change your email address. I should be able to switch it for you.

It would appear that Flare has my correct email (not icqmail), so I'm thinking I should be okay there. Thanks very much! :)
