I have long since given up on making my Star Wars/Star Trek/Lost in Space/Babylon 5/Battlestar Galactica/Golden Girls crossover movie.

    She's just one person.
Would you place a bet in Vegas on those odds?

    You did.

You are betting that Kate is a "word that rhymes with rich" based on one annonymous report to a gossip website about OitNB.

If this Jessica Pimentel is "real" ( I trust little when it comes to the internet) then this "one" woman is someone who is actually on the set and works not only with Kate but with a multitude of other women who work with Kate.

In past interviews the one thing that came through repeatedly from many different actresses was how well everyone gets along and how little diva-ness was being exhibited on the set.

As Teacake mentioned on page 1, these women go out together. Several have vacationed together, they celebrate birthdays together and even holidays.

As I pointed out, Kate hosted several costars at her home this past Thanksgiving and Danielle even bemoaned the fact that family obligations kept her from also attending.

Is there "someone" on the set who doesn't like Kate?

    Quite possibly.

But that doesn't automatically make her a "diva".

It does automatically make me wonder about the level of self esteem from Mr/Ms Annonymous.

I've seen it in my own profession, coworkers who decry what they seem to believe is diva behaviour while I thought it was just superior skills/understanding. I look at those "superior" coworkers as someone I can learn from, someone who WILL make me better, not as someone who "is" better.

Jessica Pimentel certainly seems to indicate that in her praise of the "Master class" she feels Mulgrew is conducting.

Umm, no. I clearly stated that if you hear the same reports about someone over the years it's possible there is some truth to them. Didn't base it on one report about Mulgrew but rather repeated accounts of her personality over the years.

So you base someones reputation based on only one report you hear about them? If you don't, what puts Kate Mulgrew above all others?

What type of person are you(generally speaking) that you'd celebrate the holidays with all your co-workers but her? Even if Mulgrew isn't nice, how would such an action especially during the holidays reflect on you? Because a co-worker is a bitch to you, the answer is to be a bitch in return by not inviting them....especially during the holidays? You'd go to a birthday celebration for everybody else but hers? If Mulgrew is a bitch, is this the types of reports you expect to hear about her if she was? That people outside of family behave this way?

Yes, because the only reason to say such things is because of catty jealousy. Not even entertaining the idea of even the possibility may not always be nice to work with?

.......and what of the points of view of everyone else?

    One is the loneliest number...

Does it really matter if she is a diva? I love her acting, and her roles both in Voy and Orange. I have also heard people say they've known some celebrity before they were famous and that they were bitches/assholes back then. en it turned out the person saying it had been bullying the celebrity back when they were kids. They also say William Shatner was an asshole, but in the backstage stuff i've seen where people talk about him, they seem to really love him. I don't know if Kate is nice or not, but I sure won't believe rumors and tabloids.. My mother is a little famous in Norway and a lot of people I meet have their opinions of her, and they've never even met her. Newspapers that disagree with her politicaly will try to make her look stupid, not write about her accomplishments and only use bad photos of her. At uni I was in a study group with a bully who in the end kicked me out of the studygroup, made another member quit the group and made a third member think he wasn't cut out to studdy IT, he almost quit the course. The bully made other people think we were stupid and lazy, which wasn't true for either of us.

In short. Tabloids and people like to make other people look bad.

Why do I care about what goes on behind-the-scenes? If the shows interesting, I'll watch it (Orange... definitely is). If it isn't, I won't waste my time.

Frankly, I'm surprised that people are surprised.

We don't know these actors as real people. All we know for sure is what we see onscreen. Anecdotal evidence of their personalities is just that. Anecdotal.

For the most part, I don't care if actors are jerks at work or in their lives away from the camera. They put on a show, and we pay to see it. If all are happy with the result, it's a win. If they act like poorly-raised children and the product sucks because of it, we all lose.

Eventually, our actions and attitudes catch up with us. To me, this is a non-story.

    :)

Folks say they don't care about what goes on behind the scenes but start a post about Robert Beltran and folks can't wait to start talking shit about the man. Don't even know the man in any way personally.

Fans ran Will Wheaton of the show due how badly they spoke of him.........and he was just a child.

...but those that would speak poorly about Kate Mulgrew to the press are the villains.

I think it's nice when you admire an actor's work and then you discover that they are also nice in person. Not to say that they are perfect, or that there aren't on-set stresses and bad days. But in general if you admire someone's work, while you can still admire it if you find out they are a jerk, it's probably easier to admire it if they are a nice person.

Agreed, pretty much. I have never seen the show but I sense from what I've read that her character is not the one that stirs the drink, as it were. Regardless, having seen the actor over many years in a number of different vehicles and heard her talk about the acting craft even more often, I think that she is someone who places a high measure on the integrity that being a professional brings to a production and the importance of respecting the process.

Perhaps as a result, in part, of the years she spent toiling in the business before her presence was elevated by being cast as Janeway, I can easily picture her as someone that would be rankled by instances of indifference, negligence, or sloppiness exhibiited by a co-worker. Further, that such occurrences might lead to spontaneous expressions of displeasure or even disdain. But I just don't think that they would be intended as intentionally vituperative or self-aggrandizing. It would seem to me that she is self-aware enough to process her own experiences and recognize that the type of behavior detailed in this account has no place within a production.

My reaction to the article posted in the OP would be: "So what?"; :p I don't need the people I enjoy watching on television to be angels in real-life, in fact most of them definitely aren't. That doesn't mean I don't still think they're great actors. And Mulgrew is a magnificent actor. :techman:

So long as they're great actors and they entertain me with their performances, then I really couldn't give a fig whether they're decent human beings or not. Is that shallow of me? Maybe. But it's the truth.

Yes, I go along with this for the most part.

But for me, if an actor/musician I admire emerges as a bona fide dick, I can't help but feel just a little disappointment. That's about it, it doesn't stop me watching/listening and enjoying.

I wouldn't be surprised if she acted awkwardly or stand-office towards a lot of female co-workers if she gave Jeri Ryan a hard time (or vice versa). Come on, it's not as if actors and actresses lack in towering egos.

Kate is the more experienced one on that set and from what I heard about her on Voyager, she takes pride in her acting and others' acting and tries to be professional.

And yeah I would take it with a grain of salt too. She does have high standards, as someone should.
