Well, of course if that's what you're prejudiced to believe, that will reinforce that prejudice. But looking at it objectively, it's not at all uncommon for an actor to audition for multiple roles before getting picked for one; that's just a natural part of how auditions work. So there's no reason to read anything suspicious into it, unless you're actively looking for an excuse to do so.

She did have to audition for the role, so it could have been potentially anyone. I'm pretty sure RTD didn't say "we're getting Peter Davison's daughter on the show and need a role tailored for her" and the reply "how about she play the Doctor's Daughter.?" Likewise, I doubt when the casting folks realized who she was they were all "she really is the Doctor's daughter. Cancel all other auditions."

    Oh wait, you're serious.

    :guffaw:

As noted: funny how David Troughton doesn't get this kind of flack. Hmm, I wonder why...?

Especially considering David Troughton actually did appear in one of his dad's episodes...

I was about to question you, "Didn't you mean a Pertwee Serial", until I decided I should look him up before I stepped in something stinky.. :alienblush: Dang, I had no idea he was in War Games. (I'll have to watch for that when I get there)

IMDB, also claims he was uncredited as a Guard in two episodes (Eps 5 and 6) of Enemy of The World

Especially considering he's credited as David Troughton, whereas Georgia is Georgia Moffat so it isn't even that obvious a connection, and I wonder how much column inches it actually generated at the time?

I don't think you really understood my post. David Troughton's character was just.... some guy. Moffett was cast as The Doctor's daughter in an episode called The Doctor's Daughter, and a huge publicity push was made of her relation to Peter Davison. I think people are showing themselves to be very gullible and naive in regards to the media, if they seriously see this as entirely coincidence.

Oh...you're trying to play.. that card. Oh, dear.

I remember RTD gushing over how great a gimmick it was in a huge chunk of his 2008 interviews, and the story was so well known that even my parents and casual fan friends were aware of it. The whole episode was a big gimmick. An incredibly obvious and shallow one, at that.

Hmm, perhaps because the roles he was cast in, the King of Peladon and an academic in an ensemble cast, have nothing to do with his father being the Doctor?

Where as Georgia Moffett was the daughter of a Doctor cast as the Doctor's daughter. Now, if you guys genuinely think that out of all the actresses who presumably auditioned for that thinly written, instantly forgotten role, it is a coincidence that she was cast then I guess I just don't have your capacity for giving publicity hound RTD the benefit of the doubt.

I've seen people defend The Next Doctor as not being a cheat designed to fool the audience and media. I've seen people do the same with the fake regeneration ending of The Stolen Earth.

    Some people are just....

    .... yeah.

Oh I doubt anyone would claim there wasn't at least a smidgen of thought to the publicity it might generate, but, you know, they're in the business of producing a television show that they want people to watch so they'll do that kind of thing.

I don't think the entire thing was a giant conspiracy from the get go however, more of a happy coincidence. Apparently Georgia actually auditioned for a role in the Unicorn and the Wasp, and I think at that point they thought, actually maybe we can put her in TDD.

But it isn't like she's a terrible actress (I can name multiple worse ones since the show came back) and it isn't like RTD and (Stephen) Moffet have brought her back every year since, so your Paris Hilton comparison is hyperbolic to say the least (even before we get to the fact that Georgia is a working actress not a socialite, and thought she did do some reality show once, I believe, it was a long time ago and she's clearly not someone whose only famous for being famous like Kardashian (she and DT shy away from red carpet events, it isn't like she's in the glossies every week)

My comparison seemed fair to me. I just think she's much more famous for who she's related to and sleeping with than for any of her individual accomplishments. Moffett had no real screen presence to speak of, which is why the actress's personal life was shoved in the media's face to make up for it. Comparing that to David Troughton, who is a very good actor in his own right, seems unfair.

My two pence. I appreciate she, Jenny, and that episode have their fans in this thread. I am not one of them, and I shall leave it at that.

Even she is more famous for being related to two Doctor's its hardly something she's sought out - she and Tennant are very private people about their relationship so the comparison to people who live their life for publicity was stupid.

And the episode got more coverage from Martha being in it and it being about the Doctor's Daughter than it did her.

She wasn't sleeping with David Tennant when she made The Doctor's Daughter...

And the whole point is she isn't famous. She isn't a media whore who'll attend the opening of an envelope, who sold her wedding to Hello magazine and has her own reality show on Channel 5, she's an actress who happens to be the daughter of someone who was Doctor Who 20+ years before the episode she was in aired, and frankly I bet the fact she's Peter Davison's (and let us not forget Sandra Dickinson's) daughter has probably hindered her as many times as its helped her.

Some might say that cliffhangers are not an entirely new thing in Doctor Who.

Well, of course it was designed to fool the audience and the media. And I love to be fooled. Who wants to watch a show that is predictable? The Next Doctor was a great episode with a great twist.

Jenny should return. After all, she still has an awful lot of running to do. :p
