Funny you should say that. That is exactly what they did with Michael Ansara's mustache when he played Kang in "Day of the Dove."

Ansara seemed to rock some pretty serious 'stash when seen elsewhere so I'm not so sure...
From this HD screenshot it sure looks like the whole thing is stuck on. It has some pretty sparse areas like an appliance, and it's uneven with some pretty hard edges of where it ends on his upper lip.

Watching MeTV right now I just realized that on Ironside is Gene Lyons who played Ambassador Robert Fox playing another important bureaucrat in a reoccurring role of Police Commissioner Dennis Randall.

EDIT: And there's John Hoyt... and of course one of Ironside's helper cops for many seasons is the lovely Barbara Anderson.

Man the late '60s seems like it was a great time to be a supporting character TV actor.

Oh, man, that's obviously a fake mustache. The tape on the left-hand side even overlaps his philtrum, and it's so blatantly squared-off.

^That's a shadow. The sides, and down onto his chin are fake. That directly under his nose is real. It can be seen in every role he played, from the sixties into the early nineties, including on 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea' and as the second Kane on 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'.

Well that getup from "Day of the Dove" is very fake, Christopher and I have pointed out how you can tell. Here's another angle, it's clearly a hair appliance.

Also, if you go look at PR photos of Ansara from the mid-to-late '60 he generally didn't have a mustache.
He doesn't have one in The Outer Limits episode he did a few years before "Day of the Dove" either, nor did he in the Lost in Space episode he did.

It's something he seems to have grown in the '70s, which would fit with Buck Rogers BTW.

When you have Barbara Eden, you don't need a mustache.

Wow, this thread is a gold mine. Did anybody mention David Brian (John Gill) in a first season I Dream of Jeannie episode? It's pretty interesting to see Brian with his eyes wide open, and in a comedic role, which is a big contrast from John Gill as a Nazi.

The latest I saw Ansara before he shows up in DS9... was in a Rockford Files episode where he plays Joey Blue Eyes, a reformed gangster.

...no moustache and also showing that he is a member of the hair club for men. http://sharetv.org/images/guide/341274.jpg

^Yeah, when I saw that episode last year, the only way I recognized him as Ansara (before the credits rolled, anyway) was by his voice.

(Oh, and isn't the Hair Club for Men about regrowing hair rather than just toupees? Maybe there's a better figure of speech for that.)

You can see him completely hairless as a technomage on Babylon 5.

Continuing my 60s TV festival - I Spy, season 1, "The Barter" turned out to be a pre-TOS pre-alumni gathering.

    (1) Kindly old Russian Professor Ayleborn is hassled by KGB Agent Apollo
    (2) A seedy middleman is buttonholed.
    (3) A suspicious houseboy looks on...

I just got Medium Cool and watched it last week. Oh myyyy. :)
There will be no screen grabs from that scene here, sadly.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but Steve Inhat portrayed a character named 'Mr. Garth' in an episode of Honey West.

You couldn't turn on a TV in the late 60s and early 70s without seeing Pamelyn Ferdin.
