    Yes.

From episode 1 of the first season, I've said R&I is Xena: The Next Generation, and I've constantly said that Jane and Maura are the reincarnations of Xena and Gabby.

Oh yeah, I totally see it. :techman:

Yeah... but Xena would totally wipe the floor with Jane...

Heck I think Jane would even have trouble handling Lucretia!

Now Gabby & Maura? I'm not sure which one would talk the other to death first. ;)

But in a fight, I know its Gabrielle I'd like by my side...

AFTER the fight, naturally I'd prefer Dr Isles to be on first call... (That line about "when was your last bowel movement?" cracks me up EVERYTIME!)

I liked the stuff with Maura's biological Mother, and I liked the way Jane and Angela tried to protect Maura. The stuff with Giovanni and Angela got quite a bit icky for me. Maybe Angela needs to tell him she's batting for the other team too, since it worked so well for Jane & Maura.

The stuff with the Nun was just too cliche for me to even laugh at.

Oh well, More Mama Martin next week... and can I guess that scene with J & M in the closet discussing leather also occurs next week????

The nun stuff confuses me. Why is she there? What's the point of her character?

I love, love, LOVE the Maura/Hope story line. It's a little rushed, I think, but it's just so well done. I honestly think Maura is getting the much better stories this season than Jane, and I'm okay with that.

Next week is when Jane gets kidnapped by a stalker, so no closet scene. We do have a lot of subtext, though. ;)

Nuns, Catholic Boston, "I never met a cliche I didn't love" attitude from the writers? At least we have a hint that the Nun is in the homicide dept due to her recent history, and not just because she was bored back at the convent after she retired. Still, the silly stuff with Frankie & Frost just makes me cringe.

The writers are hampered (blessed?) by the abbreviated seasons on TNT. Fewer eps = Must move storyline along faster than network TV.

I'm liking the storyline too, but I have a few questions. Why the heck did Mama Hope EVER tell her teenaged daughter about Paddy Doyle? Why admit that "evil man" fathered a child with her, much less that the child died?

Since Hope obviously did spill the beans, I'm glad the teen was at least curious enough about Paddy (or Maura???) that she searched the internet, found the connection, and figured out Maura was the long lost sister the teen would NEVER measure up against.

I also liked that the kid GUESSED and faked Maura into admitting she was the mysterious kidney donor AND that she refused the kidney. OF COURSE the long lost sister that Kayleen (?) would NEVER measure up against would try to be a superhero and save the uncertain Teen... that would just make Maura even more saintly in Hope's eyes. I like the idea that the kid would resent Maura so much that she'd refuse to have a part of Maura within her body for the rest of her life. (it may sound incredibly short sighted, but at least the kid has integrity in her misery.)

What surprised me (pleasantly?) was Hope's attempt to show Kayleen in a very visceral way that in a tug of war between the two, Hope would take Kayleen's side.

I don't know what upset Hope the most. Finding out Maura was her long dead daughter, or LOSING Maura as a friend/confidant in lonely Boston.

I think that spoiler about discussing leather in a closet full of it was half wrong. Maura gave us the lecture, but there was nary a closet in sight.

I did like the Jane/Maura interactions this week, especially finding Jane has planted INSTANT coffee in Maura's gourmand kitchen.

Now... just one question about Angela this week. Just WHO do you think she was dressing up for at work? Maybe a certain Homicide Captain?

Re: RIZZOLI & ISLES tv series and book series disscusions and comment

The cliches are starting to wear thin on me, honestly. I mean, there was no indication that the Rizzoli children went to a Catholic school. Why would assume they had? Oh, wait, it's because they're Italian and Catholic, that's why?

That's silly and wrong on so many different levels.

I was a little offput that Dr. Hope Martin couldn't take one look at her biological daughter and not see the genetic markers there to show that she and Maura would in some way related. Add to that Maura's name is, well, Maura, she lives in Boston, and every major city paper and news channel ran the story about Maura being Paddy's biological daughter, and I'm REALLY offput that Hope herself didn't put 2 and 2 together.

I was so proud of Maura's half sister for figuring it out. I was like, "Thank you! Someone's got their head out of their ass."

That said, I felt the reaction from both Hope and her sick daughter were actually spot on, very real given the very odd set of circumstances involved. That part of the writing was very well done.

Angela is likely dressing up for Korsak. Remember how crestfallen she was when Korsak's ex came looking for cash and support. "I could do yoga..." she says in a very hurt voice. I'm pretty sure Korsangela is going to happen.

Speaking of, do you love Frostie as much as I do. Frost and Frankie as so cute together! I just want them to get married, buy a brownstone, and have cute little gay babies together. :D

Agreed. I prefer it when the writer surprises me.

    Agreed! :bolian:

Good point, but then it makes the jokes re: Korsak being involved with Jane just so icky! :ack:

I really like them, but I also recall fondly the FBI agent (Frost's ex) from last year... so I see them more as best buds.

So... any guesses on who has kidnapped Rizzoli THIS time? I hope it's not another Hoyt apprentice.

Hey, what's up with your new avatar? Is Jane running for congress?

A stalker takes Jane hostage and has her handcuffed to a bed for most of the episode, but, as far as I know, Hoyt isn't involved in any way. (But it would be cool if he'd set that up prior to his death, wouldn't it?)

My avatar? I changed it in honor of the Rizzoli & Isles convention on the 20th.

It's in Anaheim, CA in a week. www.rizzlescon.net

Not too shabby, but really a good place to meet up with other fans, and Tess will be there, which is just great. I love her, I really do. She's an awesome person and very gracious with her fanbase.

    Awesome! Have fun.

Although the first (Trek) convention I ever attended was on the west coast, I have trouble justifying the time/expense to fly out there now a days. (yeah, I know, that rules out any X:WP cons in my future. Too bad they haven't come east since [?] 2007.)

Can't find a rizzles con on youtube... but I did come across a great 30 min Q&A with our ladies.

I'm more involved in the R&I fandom than I probably should be...

    ...I watched that Q&A live. :-)

There's no footage for an R&I convention because this is the first one. (I'm actually an organizer for it.) This may also be the last one. *shakes head* It's just too much...

Anywho, I'm VERY excited for this week's episode. Jane + handcuffs + Bed = fun time ;-)

Speaking of too much, I listened to a talkshow comparing X:WP & R&I's that promised you (or at least "an" Adm H) were going to be one of the panelists... but alas that was not to be. Maybe your life will slow down after the con, and you can "just" enjoy the show.

Or enjoy those parts of the show that strike your fancy...

    those parts with handcuffs...

    and kidnappers...

    and... :alienblush:

Oh, not any where near the level of fandom that you are used to seeing from me, my dear timothy.

It's almost the case of having to settle for something while waiting for this to improve or something else comes along.

The same thing happened to me after Voy ended, and I started watching JAG. (Which became a very guilty pleasure in time)

Yes, that was me. I was going to be on, but I had a family emergency pop up on me, and I had to cancel. The hosts were very understanding, and I felt really bad for not being able to show.

I'll likely be on the show again after the convention to talk about the convention and then again to be with the XWP ladies to chat in round two of their discussion.

Meanwhile, last night's episode was pretty okay. The Texan made me want to shoot someone. We don't wear cowboy hats INSIDE. It's rude. However, there was plenty of Rizzles action, so I'm good today.

Thank God, too, because the convention would have been full of not happy ladies if it'd been another episode full of "Janie's got a boyfriend".

Re: Rizzles... yeah, I THOUGHT that final scene on the couch with the blanket would find approval on your side of the TV set. ;)

Sorry to hear about the family emergency, we all seem to be having those kind of things lately. Hope things have smoothed over, in the interim.

Don't forget to give a heads up Re: round two of XWP vs R&I (I don't remember where I found it in the first place.)

Speaking about this week... I REALLY hated those pink high heels... even more than Jane!

One question Re: Tommy... I thought his dalliance with Lydia was BEFORE Dad came into the picture. Seems like any "non-Daddy" induced pregnancy was spawned from someone OTHER than a Rizzoli.

I got to say... as much as I hated that silly vacuum of Dr Pike's... I did love his drunken profession of love to Maura (She playes horrified well, :cardie: don't you think?) As for the cowboy, I actually thought they were setting him up to be the evil texter/soon to be kidnapper, especially after I saw his "invention" brought into the crime lab. :wtf:

And finally, re: the cowboy's hat... maybe he just has awful "hathead" and didn't have a comb/brush to fluff it back up? :guffaw:

So, I keep up with the show, but not this thread. Last night's episode though, was shit. We have caricature medical examiners that would look cartoonish in a cartoon. The cowboy just felt really forced and silly. It didn't fit the tone of the show.

Next, the murder case is tied to Rizzoli, again. Come on, that's beyond forced. The writers couldn't invest the viewers in the case without something so trite? Maybe they should take some lessons from Angie Harmon's previous show, Law and Order. Don't get me wrong, I generally like how the characters are written on the show, I just don't enjoy the "small world" syndrome of making every other case related to the main characters.

If I were Boston PD I would be tempted at this point to force them out of town. It would be the quickest way to lower crime.

I think Cabot Cove thought the same thing about Jessica Fletcher!

This series could be so much better, and yet I still watch it for fun and catch it on the repeats or internet if I miss it. I see potential, and will continue to follow it in hopes TPTB will rise to the occasion.

    I love the banter.

Jane: "Listen to all swag units, we have swag distribution IN progress..."

Jane: "where I wax is my business!"

    and of course...

Maura: "Pike declared his love for me."
    Jane: "WHAT!"

Rizzoli & Isles episode "Cuts Like a Knife"

    Hmmm.

Missed the middle of the ep, and just caught up.

Somehow I can't see our macho Jane refusing to muscle her mattress into the bedroom, with or without Maura's help, but it did provide another titillating visual at the end.

Do we really think Riley is a drug dealer, or an undercover cop?

And will we EVER find out who gained final possession of the bundt pan???
