    amok time...

    Thanks, guys! :)

TOS.5 take on Spock's booty-call Vulcans Gone Wild adventure.

And the original TOS shot that inspired.

    Enjoy!

Is the slight blurriness intentional to capture the TOS look or just an effect of the lighting/render/motion blur/resolution? I'd love to see that shot with a sharper quality to it.

    Deg,

Awesome work. Really great balance between respecting the original design while giving her a finish that updates her look.

Yours is one of the very best CGI representations of the old E I've seen.

I have no nits to pick or suggestions to make - just praise - THIS is a TOS Enterprise which would have done us proud on the big screen.

Outstanding work as usual, Deg! You've given the old girl just the right amount of polish and style. Just as she deserves.

Just one thing... we've seen your ship's arse end quite often now, time for a few mug shots I would say.. :shifty: :p;)

Thanks, guys, glad you like the shot! I must say, this one has me staring at our girl all the longer it seems. I just LOVE Connie and esp. my TOS.5 version o' her.

Venardhi, I always add a bit of blur as nothing in real life has that super-sharp-focus that comes of CG renders, aka The CG Curse. Nothing screams “I'm a CG render!” more than that to me. And while I understand the desire to see her crisp detail (as I often contemplate leaving her sharp before eventually blurring her .5 px), in the end I can't condemn her to the curse. In my “model” shots I leave her sharp, but when attemping to create her as real, I add what I deem is the reality of photo-realism, and reality ani't perfect-sharp, in my experience anywho.

My thoughts exactly, my friend! I was just thinking that. The aft 3/4 is undeniably my fav view of the gal, but she has to be seen in her glory from other angles as well. Stay tuned. ;)

    Thanks again, guys! :)

Oddly, that so-very-even slight blurriness screams digital to me far more. Targeted blur on highlights, shadows, details, etc. would seem a preferable middle ground. Have you tried using the blur at a higher resolution then shrinking, or making a second layer with the blur and playing with opacity and layer settings?

In general how much post processing do you do on your renders?

Not odd to me in the least. Art and even perception of reality are both a completely subjective experience, IMO, subject to what ones feels for their own self is “correct.”

Sure, I do post work to taste. Have tried all the options you mention to my liking of one degree or another. I'm always working on comping techniques as I pick them up, utilizing and/or discarding them as I feel fit.

In general, I don't lay on an overabundance of post (I'm sure those that know more techniques than I do spend more time post tweaking than I do), but I don't leave the renders raw either.

    “… strange new worlds …”

TOS.5 take on the classic front 3/4 planetary orbital shot.

    Enjoy!
