Hi everyone yet again on TBBS, I just wanted to let everyone know the reason for me not being on here lately. Friday morning, Dad and I were involved in a major accident!!!! It involved four cars besides ours. This huge white truck was going 45MPH on the interstate and literally slammed into Dad and I, pushed our car up in the air, and shoved us into the car ahead of us. That car, in turn, hit the car ahead of it, knocking out his radiator. It was without a doubt, one of the worst traffic accidents in my life. I was histerically crying afterwards, then shaking. Dad is still having nightmares about it. The truck had a grill on the front of it and damaged our car beyond repair I think. Both the front and back ends are completely screwed up. The car IS driveable, however, just the front and back are badly damaged. I've been helping with a catering at my Aunt's resturant for the past two weeks now and am still gonna be doing it until next Friday hopefully. We were on our way to pick up some cupcakes and pies for the resturant when we were plowed into by another vehicle. The guy was of course cited for reckless driving and thankfully no one was seriously injured. Dad and I however are both extremely sore and I feel like I've literally been run over by a massive truck. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this story with you all because lately I've been feeling extremely bad about the wreck. I was wondering if any of you all have been involved in worse accidents, and , if so, how do you overcome the soreness/fatigue? I'm very sorry to hear this, though I'm glad you're not hurt. I've never been in an accident, but I'm sure some of our fellows can offer their own experiences. I hope it won't be long before you feel more stable and secure.
Glad to hear that you're not hurt, I too was in a bad accident back in 2009. The gal in the car in front of me was lucky I was there, I was rear-ended by another truck doing 70MPH and I was at a stop.
Glad that you're not seriously injured. Don't be surprised if sudden noises make you jump A LOT for awhile. Be there for your Dad; help create quiet places/times for him. His age, complete loss of control over the situation (of course, not his fault, but he may blame himself), and his concern for you at the time may make his reactions worse and stronger.
Thanks everyone. Forgot to mention we were at a complete stop when it happened. And it was a JOLT I'll tell you! I am still kinda squeemish on the interstate and kinda dread driving it Wednesday(have a job interview) but all in all, I'm ok. I hate getting rearended by someone! Luckily for him he had insurance so it'll pay for most of the repairs. What sucks is that four cars were involved besides myself! And yes, I was wearing my seat belt at the time. When I told Mom about it, she was almost in histerics..then she saw the car and thought: it's no wonder you weren't killed. We have crap upon crap in our car and when the truck hit us, it broke a light bulb into many pieces. We're having to use my Aunt's vehicle for our caterings this week but hopefully by Friday it'll be done. My neck and back are extremely sore plus I've been working for the past two weeks all eight days a week cause of the catering and frankly my body is telling me, ok wait, slow down and REST! My heart is telling me, help your Aunt with catering. I feel I need some rest and think I'll be getting it Wednesday.
I'm glad you're okay, voyagergrl-- I've never been in an accident that bad. I hope you and your dad were both seen at the hospital to check for injuries. Also, it can take a few days for injuries to make themselves known, so make an appointment if any of the aches and pains don't get better or get worse.
I once got a flat tire and lost all control of my volvo 850. While trying to regain control, i ended up accidentally pit maneuvering another car (that flipped) and i smashed into the concrete wall at 90mph. I was i such shock that when ERTs tried to get me out of the car, that had to remove the steering wheel because the couldnt pry my fingers off it. Its normal to be wary of cars for a while after an accident. But remember to control that fear, don't let the fear control you. EDIT: On an interesting side note, my best friend met his wife when he rear ended her car at a red light. If you pardon my language, its a running joke that "he took her from behind before they even dated".
Glad to hear you're ok. It's been a long time since I've been in an accident, and never been in one since I was driving, thankfully. I'm always worried that someone will rear end me in interstate jams.
I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt. Accidents are horrible. Even a minor one can leave you shaken up for a long time. Just try to take it easy for a bit and let your body (and mind) recover!
Get that checked out. You have a limited window (I think 30 days, I'm not sure?) after an accident to claim medical compensation from the other guy's insurance company. After that, they won't pay without a lawsuit, so don't wait to figure out whether something is actually wrong.
Yes! Get it checked. Sounds like pulled muscles and some whiplash. A neck brace might be handy for when you’re resting, if you get to rest. It’ll elevate your head a bit off your neck, like traction, and let your neck rest without the weight of this big ol’ head on it. Can do wonders for a neck sore due to impact.
I'm so sorry you went through that. I've been in a couple accidents, one very serious. They can be scary even when they're not serious. Assuming that you've been checked out by a medical professional and don't have any serious injuries, I would suggest heat and gentle stretching for the soreness. And lots of extra sleep for the fatigue.
Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence. Yeah, I'll definitely get it checked out if it's not better soon. I think it's pulled muscles with a mix of fatigue because of doing caterings for two weeks straight without a break(even working Sundays!). So it's nice to be home for one day today even though I have a job interview in a few hours. I get to rest when I get home.
If your neck still hurts, try having someone place their hands under your jaw with their fingers extending towards the your neck, and GENTLY lift a bit. If that feels better, try a neck brace. It gave instant but temporary relief when I whacked my head getting into a van. How are the sore muscles? If they're better after a few days, they'll be okay.
