Ep 109: 'The Gathering' As The Three Families plunge the world into a recession, the Torchwood team - defeated, powerless, hunted - must strike a bargain with the devil himself
The show is so all over the place and yet it proves oddly watchable. I'll be damned if anything makes any sense yet. At least now the characters are nice enough to tell us that we won't be seeing them again. I swear the tone changes every single episode. I still can't really figure out the Oswald and Jilly characters. For as much focus as they receive it doesn't really seem to have come together for much. I'm really curious to see what the final judgment will be once the next episode airs.
The thing that most pisses me off in this episode is the fact that even this bunch of writers can make a good episode if they bother. Still no CoE, but at least it wasn't background noise, and it wasn't one rolleye scene after another. This is at least season 2 Torchwood quality. A few episodes ago it was just plain boring.
Hey, I though it looked like a vag too! We must have a "type" (There was a line in Beaver Falls last week: "Admit it, I make your gash froth!" Transposition accordingly.) I'm still waiting for Jilly to reveal herself as something the opposite as that which she appears to be, which is "a complete mess". Oswald's motivations are weird. Ries had some alpha moments. Could we be any more Anne Frank? Gwen is a Spiv? I fucking loath these huge breaks in supposedly a continuous story. 2 months. Fuck. Can Esther ignore 50th century pheromones? The Araknos corpses flushed to the core and the fricking green goo slime from Inferno and whatever that second doctor story was about tunneling to Atlantis, and how the hell didn't that wake up any Silurians? It's Stigmata. The Earth has Stigmata.
I, too, said to myself "giant underground cavern vagina." Which really couldn't live up to all the build-up. But otherwise a solid episode. Kept me entertained throughout, and and it's a relief to know this is all coming to an end one way or another.
At least they've started the real story. It's still not very well done. I was too busy wondering why they show a hole running horizontally instead of vertically to imagine a vagina. Besides, my picture of a vagina includes lips that come together at two ends. Esther and Jack are sexless because the US Captain Jack is not bisexual, he's just gay. Apparently bisexuality is too transgressive for Starz. This is odd, as I thought Starz prided itself on not having good taste.
He professed his love to Gwen while she was distracted by real life. Does that count? If the morphic field only effect humans, then if you want to ignore it, why not just become less human? There's been dozens of episodes about villains and plagues transforming the species into posthumans or just out and out Aliens... What the frakk would this morphic field do a formerly human Vampire? Cyberconverson? Has the Emperor Dalek started juicing humans? What about just shagging n alien? Does that mean that your kids are safe? by the 50th century how the hells is jack still com[parable to a 21st century human being... Unless his metabolism "adjusts" the temporal standard to aide with Time Cop incursions and naturalization? Although, he claimed to have no immunities. Meh.
I imagine Maxwell Smart would have said "Would you believe that that's the second biggest cave vagina I've ever seen?"
I don't know, do you think Starz would approve heavy man-on-man action but draw the line at showing interest in women? Other than Gwen, I don't think Torchwood Jack has ever shown interest in women.
I liked it. Good CIA shit, good buildup. Pretty good drama with Gwen's father. Looking forward to the conclusion.
I immediately thought of a butt crack running through the Earth I don't get it, honestly This was the next to last episode, and nothing really happened, we simply got our characters to the right city they need to be in, that's about it, a whole episode just to get our people to another country
We had the steps where they figured out where to go. Would you rather the first episode of the season say "here is where you have to go, here is why, now go" and the second episode they go and solve the problem?
I'm about halfway through... so... seven weeks have passed between THIS episode and the previous? So, basically, not much has happened? We skip TWO months? That's what it sounded like, Danes said, Jack was smuggled into the country 7 weeks prior to his arrival... That's just WEIRD story telling. We're heading towards the climax and then skip two months ahead.... as if those two months don't matter.... Like Jack's cliffhanger... I'm shot... that's ok, two months later, I'm fine. So much for jeopardy, so much for stakes... This series feels like it's writer by ten different writers... the next writer just gets the cliffhanger of the previous episode and then does what they want and then pass it one. We're in the last two hours... and if just... doesn't matter. Edited to add: Stage Direction: Jilly stares into the giant vagina... and smiles...
Well, that was certainly an episode. There was a title screen, people talked, and then the credits played. Not much else to say. 2/5
Some like me can say a Vagina is a blessing! Its something alot of men pray for and too lol What too much?
