The Merian-class (Planck-class variant) is I think a very fugly class. I am thinking this class is the love child of a Elkins-type and Yeager-type starships.

The other new fugly class is represented by the NCC-2260 (top row, two from the left). The less said, the better I think. :barf:

I liked the earlier new classes much better, especially the Aventine which I feel is very beautiful. This trend toward fugly ship designs is disappointing.:ack:

Anyone else think it's kinda weird that they're using that old pic of a Frontier class ship being chased by a Borg Cube?

I've seen other images of that ship. It's intended to be a deuterium tanker if I remember right. It's actually pretty cool.

It's not that new either. There used to be a thread on scifi-meshes.com for it.

Edit: Found it. A madkoifish image based off of a John Eaves sketch.

I've liked most of Probert's stuff but wasn't a fan of this particular design. I like it as a stepping stone concept toward the final ambassador but don't like it as a final design, not in the '12 SOTL calender or as the STO Ent-F.

I've never liked the onscreen Ambassador-class---it just looks so clunky. Probert's original design is what should have been. Hell it looks better than the 1701D and would have made a nicer hero ship for the series.

Even if Probert's design was better, it wasn't as good of a transition model between the excelsior and galaxy as the design they settled upon. That's what I love most about the final model, you can see the TOS, B, and D in the design. It also maintains the simple lines and compartmentalization of the Jefferies' trek design theory.

Sternbach's version was easier to build, which is an important factor when you're on a tight schedule.

It took me a very long time to accept the E-D and in some respects I still don't care for it. Probert's design I like right off and I could easily have accepted that as the E-D rather than what we got.

Looking at Tobias Richter's recent E-D I'd have to say that the D was a damn pretty lady. If they had done more shots that were as cinematic as the opening shot of Farpoint that might be more widely accepted. I'd have had no problem seeing her in FC - NEM. She went before her time.

There was precisely too much TOS in the final model. The Excelsior had smoother, more rounded surfaces.

Say, is there a view of the bridge layout available from the CGI design? You can just see it through the windows, so it must exist somewhere...

What looks really awesome is the excelsior-ambassador bridging ship in the 2012 SOTL calender. I like it WAY better. Of course, it was made after the final Ambassador layout rather than before.

That would be the same ship that we're talking about.

No. No its not. I'm speaking of the one by Madkoifish. Probert's was an Ambassador concept that came before Yesterday's Enterprise.
