I know. I would so get these if I could... *sigh* I find it odd they would release it in other countries but not the US. Oh well, at least we're getting the PC Adventure Games (even if the control scheme totally sucks).
I've come to consider the whole videogame aspect of Doctor Who to be irrelevant. This isn't the first time the BBC has refused (and I'm using that word deliberately because they could bloody well make the arrangements if they wanted to) to make DW games available in North America. Destiny of the Doctors, which featured all 7 original Doctors -- including voiceovers by the likes of Tom Baker, and video footage of Anthony Ainley as the Master -- never saw the light of day outside the UK. Plus, these are not the first console games to be restricted overseas -- there was a Tenth Doctor/Martha Jones Wii game called Top Trumps a few years ago. And of course there's what I'm personally calling a fiasco involving the "free" Adventure Games. Yeah, they eventually made the first two games available outside the UK (no sign of the third, I see), but in a slap to the face they refused to release the Mac version that was issued in the UK. (I used to blame the company they hired to distribute the games over here, until I found out it was BBC Worldwide that decided to only make the Windows version international.) So until someone really and truly understands that Doctor Who has an international audience (and the licence fee argument is utterly moot when you're talking about Wii games, right?) I'm just sticking to the TV show and the books. I just hope Moffat and company don't go too overboard in trying to tie TV continuity in with the games (as they're allegedly doing with the Adventure Games). Just as a side note, I've been flamed for "bitching and complaining" about this topic. Frankly, though, it's only by bitching and complaining that we get results. Bitching and complaining resulted in the original versions of Star Wars Eps 1-4 being issued to DVD. Bitching and complaining saw the original Star Trek uncancelled after its first season. Bitching and complaining gets Facebook to cave in and change its policies. Maybe enough bitching and complaining, if it reaches the right eyes and ears, might get someone in a BBC office in London to pay attention and realize they're missing out on money-generating opportunities by not allowing things like these new Wii games to be released internationally, or that they could sell more copies of the Adventure Games if they let the Mac version out (and they could probably make a killing if they ported them to the iPad). Alex
I will probably pick up both of the games when they get cheaper, I know they are going to be rubbish but hell its a doctor who computer game, if they wanted a great doctor who game they would make a DS game in the same vein as the professor Layton series
Just FYI, the third adventure has been released in the US. I downloaded it a week or two ago. Spoiler: My opinion In my opinion, it was the most disappointing of the three. WAY shorter than the other two. The poor control scheme really hinders the last part, which is timed, and requires a lot of moving and turning. Took me about 20 times to finish that section.
they have just released the first screenshots for the wii game... it looks like something from 1997 and they made Amy a size 0 http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=20576
Seriously, that looks like a PSP game at best. I know the Wii isn't very powerful, but that is just laziness.
Those screenshots look terrible. It looks like something you would expect to see on the original PlayStation or Nintendo 64. No surprise that the DS/Wii games aren't getting released in places like the US. Such terrible products could kill people's interest in the franchise forever! This is coming from someone that thought that the Adventure Games were pretty bad. Even they look half decent now compared to this.
Hate to say it, but while Doctor Who does well in almost every form of media, video games are where it has stumbled time and time again. Apart from maybe the pinball game I don't think there has been a decent, cutting edge game. Granted, licensed games from any franchise usually aren't that great to begin with, but there's been a few winners here and there (Most recently Batman:Arkham Asylum and Transformers:War For Cybertron to name two, and Star Wars and Star Trek have a few "diamonds in the rough" here and there). But Doctor Who unfortunately hasn't ever come out with a truly great game.
As an aside, the Wii version of that was the second-worst video game I ever played. It was a tremendous disappointment, especially since I spent my birthday money on it. Your mere mention of it has caused me to get all bummed-out again. I hope you're happy. That is all.
