As Christopher mentioned she didn't necessarily become a Q. I like the idea of Lady Q being with Janeway in her moment of death to comfort her as she crossed over to the afterlife.

Which again fits perfectly with "Women in Refrigerators" trope. No we want her back in the same condition she was in, before the novel "Before Dishonor."

I honestly don't even know what you're talking about any more. I followed your link and see no connection whatsoever between that and a potential return of Janeway having real consequences in some other dramatic fashion.

He wasn't suggesting she should be crippled, if that's what you're thinking. (?)

What's so objectionable about Janeway having learned something from her experience? Spock wasn't 100% the same after his rebirth. Why should Janeway be any different? What is she the rock of ages of something? And NO I wasn't suggesting she come back crippled or brain damaged or scarred or bearing Borg implants or anything of the sort. But you can't just hit the reset button on this. Berman & Braga don't live here no more. There have to be repercussions. Drama demands it!

What would be the point of bringing her back if there's no drama involved? Or if she's still the same?

Are the VOY crew supposed to be like, "ZOMG, welcome back!" and Janeway is like, "OMG, my BFFs! What's happenin over here?" and then they go and party or something.

Also, Beyer's VOY novels have been excellent... why would you want to get rid of them?

Beyer is a good writer, but Voyager without Kathryn Janeway isn't "Voyager". Yes if it were up to me I'd reboot the whole thing.

She shouldn't be changed to an extent she's not recognizable as Janeway anymore. That would utterly defeat the object.

But dying should change you a little. It should be more than a conversation starter.

Unless we end up with a clone or alternate-universe-transplant Janeway. Remember the current Harry Kim isn't "ours".

(and then a few books later "our" Janeway returns from the Q for the epic Janeway Wars trilogy that makes Destiny look like an episode of Scrubs. Or not.)

Those of you who read the books are the ones who seem to want to leave her "dead" and not "resurrect" her, etc. Those are the words I'm reading. I'm just pointing out that there is a significant difference between coming back to life and coming back from the Q continuum. ;)

Look at how lame Sisko's return was. At least in my opinion. Could have been a lot more interesting.

Brit - you think that Janeway dying, joining the Q for a while, then coming back is not an interesting story?

I think it's very telling that you said you want her back exactly the way she was before Before Dishonor. It's not that you want the character alive, it's that you want the character alive and in a particular role, going through particular stories. THIS is what I mean when I say that no matter what, lots of people will be unhappy. "Janeway must be alive" isn't enough for you.

Same thing I thought about Sisko joining the prophets and returning one day for some huge epic reason. But that wasn't the case.

Kirk's resurrection was a lot more drastic than anything anyone is suggesting for Janeway and nobody hears me bitching. I don't know why Janeway has to be exactly as she was on the television show. I mean Nemesis love it or lump it showed us quite clearly that Janeway wasn't commanding Voyager and had in fact moved on with her life and career quite happily. It's very unrealistic for anybody to think Pocket is going to just reboot their Voyager line altogether. Especially since Kristen Beyer's work is apparently selling quite well. If Janeway comes back it will be within the context of the relaunch.

Some polls allow you to see who voted for one and some don't. I believe you have that option when you create the poll what you want but it takes an admin, not a mod, to change it after the fact. It's too bad it's not easier to change later on. This is personal taste but I prefer when polls show who voted for what.

As for answering the question, are anti-bringing-Janeway-back people, (I'm purposely not calling them anti-Janeway), possibly doubling up their votes? Maybe it's my prejudices coming out but I just don't see them as interested enough to go to the bother while that's now how I view the pro-bring-back-Janeway crowd.

I'm against bringing her back because the two books written since her death have the best Voyager books I've read and I don't want to mess with that formula. My liking the books has nothing to do with Janeway being gone but I thought they had the best plots by far and, for me, the writing was very top notch. As much as I like Kirsten Beyer's writing and trust her to do a great job with the next book, I just have a difficult time thinking her or anyone else is going to make a Janeway return, which is probably going to have to be some sort of variation of Q snaps her fingers and Janeway's back, all that interesting. It just seems to me it would be some sort of contrivance that would diminish the future books.

It was my first poll. I don't think it's really fair to make the poll public after those who voted believed it to be anonymous (just on principle)

I never expected organized spamming by Super Janeway Fans, many of which don't read the books at all. Less still did I expect some people believing my little poll was somehow a Pocket Books plot. Lesson learned for the next time.

    It's been interesting.

Which seems, now, like a huge admission from you.

Please tell us what you envisage for a returned Admiral Janeway? Just how would she fit back into things in a way that would please you? Would she try to reclaim her role as matriarch of her own book series, which has gone on without her, or does she return to a series of cameos ordering Picard and Riker around the galaxy?

Because I sure can't think of anything that would pacify most of the "You Killed Our Janeway!" crowd.

How about she returns just to do the nasty with Chuckles, has a few rug rats and then just remains back on Earth being a Soccer Mom.

That's one more poll than I've done. Didn't mean to denigrate you in any way, just saying how I thought polls worked and throwing in my opinion.

No, I just said I didn't have to believe every claim. That is not an accusation of anything.

Actually, Star Trek means something to me at least since elementary school. To give you a hint of how long ago that was, TOS and I were "born" in the same year.
