It seems that you have to be bisexual to serve in Torchwood anyway. Besides, the show is up for a GLAAD Media Award. I doubt it will win at all, but as time goes on, more and more network TV is becoming at least more tolerant of sexual diversity out there.

Anyway, back to Desperate Housewives, I'd be supremely entertained if, similar to how Barrowman must use an American accent in a UK show, he'd have to do some sort of UK accent to be in a US show :)

Well, not gay but at least bisexual. And even then, back at the Tower, we don't know if Ianto wasn't bi, simply that he was dating a woman. It's still legit, I think. After all, no one simply "turns" gay as if it were a switch.

It's the same deal with Gwen -- she's happily married to and in love with Rhys, but she had her trysts with women, too.

Maybe Martha's almost completely straight and thus remains with UNIT (then leaves) rather than joining Torchwood for the long term :)

you know, i hadn't thought about the whole must be gay or bi at the hub, but it's true! the only one i don't remember ever having a same sex moment was owen. ianto had jack, gwen had her make out moment with the sex alien, and toshiko had her thing with that alien that gave her the mind reading necklace. huh.

Owen did, in the pilot I believe. He was in a bar and there was this couple, guy and a girl, and he used some kind of spray to make them both fall for him.

The Owen thing always felt like a spur of the moment thing to escape a jealous boyfriend. He didn't look overly happy about it. Gwen and Hoeshi were both under the influence as it were (alien influence that is) One of the things that annoyed me about S1 of TW was not so much all the same sex stuff, but that it was usually brought about via alien technology! That's why the Jack/Jack and Jack/Ianto stuff seemed so much more believable.

I took that moment as Owen not expecting a confrontation and just using the spray to double his pleasure, but whether its your interpretation or mine, he still get a threesome out of it. And in a threesome, well, you have to interact with all participants.

(ahem, at least... so I've heard... )
