I just got back from lunch with five others. Pizza. And, I'm more convinced of something now then I've ever been before. Going out for pizza with a group sucks. Not the company, mind you. But the pizza. No one really ever gets what they want. -- Green peppers? No. Someone doesn't like them. -- Black olives? Someone thinks they're disgusting. -- Italian sausage? Too spicy for someone. Or, don't forget the vegetarian. -- Anchovies? Bringing that up is always gets a laugh. Even if you order more than one pizza, the results are lowest common denominator pizzas. Pizzas designed by a committee. So, with that in mind, what's your go-to pizza? The pizza you get when you only have to satisfy yourself and don't have to compromise over a single topping. Mine is Canadian bacon and sauerkraut. But you can't get sauerkraut as a topping at any pizza joint in NoVA (though it's common enough in the midwest that in Iowa, even the national chains have it on their toppings lists). So, I go with double anchovies. God help me, I think I could eat anchovies on ice cream.
Depends on where I'm getting it from. If I'm really desperate and I'm ordering from one of the national chains, it's usually sausage and extra cheese. Happy Joe's? Taco. Marco's on Central Avenue (which has a Chicago-style thin crust, very reminiscent of a place near where I grew up)? Spicy sausage, mushroom and onion. Mario's? Pepperoni. Neighbors? Sausage and mushroom.
Mushroom and sausage, but I'm not that picky when it comes to average toppings. I don't eat pineapple because I'm allergic, and I'd prefer no ham, but I've eaten it.
I often just go for a regular Margherita, that is cheese and tomatoes/tomato sauce. Or a Cappricios, tomato, cheese, ham, mushroom. Or when I am starving a kebabpizza. That is a pizza that's made with some stuff on it and then they add kebabmeat, salad, cucumber, fresh tomatoes, onions and some kebabsauce afterwards. Great eatings, but oh how badly I sleep the following night.
Point of order: A traditional pizza Margherita uses sliced (not shredded) mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, fresh basil leaves and olive oil.
I know, I often make them myself if I have the money for ingredients and time to make it. They are always delicious!
That sounds AMAZING. I might add mushrooms to give it more body, but I'd be over that pizza like a fat kid on a smartie!
The kebab pizza sounds great. I don't know how to make kebabs, but my dad makes a killer one! Maybe next time he makes them, I'll suggest making a pizza with the leftovers
I'm a simple pepperoni and italian sausage kind of guy. It's a good type to comparatively judge all pizza places by. BTW, have you had the new Domino's? Pretty good improvement.
It really is a good pizza. Mushrooms on it are nice, and sometimes substituting the onions for pineapples works too if you can't be bothered, but caremelized onions are the best
