We need Trek on TV just not to go insaaa-aaane!

 

I want the production team and cast to hurry up can't they think of a appropriate storyline to be told.

Two to three years between franchise movies is generally a norm.

 

What I take out of that interview? That most of the complaints that those of us who didn't like "Star Trek" (no XI in my posts as this movie wasn't XI of anything) have now been vindicated.

Some of us said that the characters lacked any substance and that most were just there to say they were there. We were told we were wrong until the actors that played them started releasing statements saying they wanted more depth for their characters.

Some of us said that the story lacked any real depth and had a complete lack of morality. We were told that we were wrong. Abrams, in this interview, admits that very thing. The response? Not that we were right but that we should give it time.

Ultimately, from my perspective, Abrams has done nothing but lie to Trek fans from day one about where he's taking the franchise. But, I can understand why. Because he wants us in those seats.

Given how many Trek fans on these boards went to see the movie 4, 5, 23 times, in contrast to how the movie did at the People's Choice awards, he clearly needs to convince us that the franchise is in good hands and that he'll continue to keep the spirit of the franchise alive. Of course, to continue something you have to start it to begin with.

We are now told that a possible/probable new story involving Khan won't be a remake. This, from the same guy who said that "Star Trek" wouldn't be a reboot, remake, or re-imagined film when it is clearly all of those rolled into one.

We're told that the story will be better than the last, from a guy who doesn't seem to recognize that his primary claim to fame (Lost) has gotten progressively worse with each passing season.

In short, I don't have a single reason to believe anything Abrams said. Let alone reward him with my rapidly decreasing disposable income.

Sadly, for myself (and, I suspect some others) Trek ended with a mediocre movie called Nemesis.

 

Yeah, I doubt the writing or "thinking of a story" is the holdup. You want a higher volume of Trek, it has to be back on TV.

Since you're completely wrong about Lost, it makes sense that you're also completely wrong about Trek XI.

Hasn't JJ more or less left Lost? I've noticed a trend when people have reviewed previous JJA shows, such as Alias and Lost. It seems that quality had declined from the particular show after JJ left to pursue other things. I know this was true with Alias and from what I have heard of Lost, that while it is still good and high quality, the earlier stuff was better.

 

Not sure if he's still with the show or not.

IMHO, Season 2 was pretty much the peak of the show. There was a decline for 3 and a rapid drop off after that. I'm frankly ready for it to end.

On a somewhat related site note, it's interesting that a sub plot with Fringe is a group of watchers whose purpose is to follow events and insure that they adhere closely to their intended time line. Combine that with Lost where he says that time cannot be changed no matter how much you try and you get the sense that either Trek is the oddball, even for him.

If I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt I could say that he plans to fix all the screw ups by the end of the 3rd movie. Might believe that if he gave even the slightest sign that he recognized that it's actually screwed up to begin with. But, he hasn't.
