They threw the same complaints at Simon Peg as Scotty in the new Star Trek movie, saying that his Scottish accent was also too fake sounding--but Peg actually is Scottish.

I would have preferred Carter. I hate Rush.

Though, I really like Col. Young. If Carter were there, she'd end up in charge. So, I guess it was a smart move leaving her off.

^ Both Carter and Young are colonels, so it would depend on who has the earliest date of rank, that's who'd be in charge of the military personel. Carter would deferr to a superior officer.

Carter, apparently, has the superior command experience. That lady has done EVERYTHING! As much as I like Young, I would follow Carter.

    My thoughts exactly.

While I loved Carter in SG1, we just know too much about her as a character. We don't really know anything Rush and what his real agenda is at the moment. Having Carter on the show would set a certain tone and restrict the story lines possible.

Icurus wouldn't a military priority compared to operations against the Wraith or Ori. They wouldn't have sent someone like Carter or McCay because they were useful else where. Think of Iccurus a lot like the original Stargate program before they knew what it did.

Still, the question of why Carter or McKay aren't being called upon now to help out with the Destiny situation is a legitimate one. Okay, Carter's off commanding the Hammond and therefore unavailable. But last we saw McKay, he was on Earth, so why hasn't he been called upon.

Also, the Icarus project wasn't started until after the Ori were defeated. And there's rarely been military action taken against the Wraith unless they directly attack Atlantis or Earth or one of the of-world teams in the Pegasus galaxy.

So I stand corrected, but I still dislike her voice with the accent.

I guess it just sounds fake after ten years of SG-1, one in Atlantis, and the movies!

Actually they were planning to send Atlantis back to Pegasus before SGU takes place in the SGA movie if they ever make it.

Except that Atlantis is the only practical obstacle to a bunch of space-vampires building a galactic power-base and then rampaging across the Universe.

The way I see it, the Wraith no longer pose a direct to Earth. None of their ships know Earth's location, and aren't capable to travelling to other galaxies regardless. The Stargate in Atlantis itself was the only one in Pegasus capable of dialling Earth. It may seem cruel to the humans living in Pegasus, but keeping Atlantis on Earth is by far the most logical course of action.

Although, they could always send the entire fleet of Asgard-enhanced BC-304s to the Pegasus galaxy and make short work of the Wraith.

EDIT TO ADD: I remember a few weeks back, someone here had a thread noting the SGC hadn't been featured yet in SGU, save for Daniel's video. In this thread it was speculated that the SGC had moved out of Cheyenne Mountain and relocated in Atlantis. If you'll note, in Air we see both Walter and Dr. Lee working at the Pentagon now. Dr. Lee isn't so shocking, given we saw him assigned to the Midway station. But Walter has been with the SGC since the beginning. If he's no longer there, it could be because it really has shut down, and he didn't transfer to Atlantis because Chuck already handles the gate dialling procedures. Something to think about.

Rush, because he's a mortal, where Carter was typically written as an IQ 1386 supergenius.

Carter is the "right person", beside the fact that she's been promoted beyond basic science grunt.

Carter is a bland, overexposed and overrated Mary Sue, whereas Rush, while somewhat of a cliche, is actually kind of interesting. I'll take Rush.
