I sort of want to get this, but I don't have internet in my apartment ATM, so there probably isn't a point.
360/PS3 version of the game is getting high scores from critics & fans but I was just over at Gamespot in the PC version (which GS has not reviewed) and there is huge opposition to the game and the average score is barely above 5.0. Is this similar to other sites ? and is it me or Gamespot not reviewing the PC version feels very very fishy because they know they would have to downscore it due to being a port.
Started playing it last night and I can say this. MW2 = Balls to the wall intense! WOW! The graphics are some of the best I’ve seen yet, very realistic. The save system actually saves at your exact checkpoint, no going back to the beginning of that particular mission. The action is chaotically good. The Special ops missions are very cool. My complaints so far. The sound. It’s an all or nothing adjustment. Ummm.. my T.V. remote does that, why do I need to go into an options menu to adjust it. I want to turn the music down that is blaring in my face so I can actually hear my partner giving the various enemy positions, Mission stats and such. Even crappy games now-a-days let you separately adjust the Music, voice and FX, what gives? Totally unacceptable. The A.I. rushing me through the game. I hate that, "HURRY UP! RUN THIS WAY!!!" crap. I completely ran past a whole weapons cash that I could have upgraded my weapons to help me in battle and 2 pieces of intel. It is cool it lets you go back without something collapsing the path back though. Lastly, whats up with the instant death crap if you don't want me to go into a certain area? I am in no way shape or form in favor of invisible walls but come on, put up a chain link fence, a car I can't jump over or something don't just instantly kill me.
I think it is becasue the on line experience is crap and people are pissed about the lack of dedicated servers or something.
Yes, the PC version is getting poorly reviewed by users as a kind of revolt: there are no dedicated servers for PC online play. The game itself is still great and works just the same as the console versions. But the online experience is FAR better on 360 and PS3, so console is the way to go with MW2 I'm afraid.
Now that I've had some time to drink it in I'm noticing a few things in multiplayer. A few scenarios have caged chickens. If you start firing near them they freak out in the cages. We actually used this to mask our movements and jumped 3 guys last night from behind. Neat little detail. Then when positioning flipped my partner stabbed the chickens to shut them up. Also a cool detail. In another scenario, I was crouched behind a car-and could read the license plate clearly. While gazing at it like an idiot I caught a reflection in the bumper-and spun around and killed the ninja behind me. The guy actually asked if I heard him(in the lobby) and I told him what happened. The attention to detail is amazing. Having a great time-ready to pull a nuke soon, I think.
Well, I caved and bought it I got the impression that the satellites SEEMED to be working, but in fact were not, hence the exchange between the sat and radar guys during the cut sequence. It seemed like they were getting conflicting info, rather than the sats just being completely out of commission. That said, the idea of an airbourne invasion IS pretty silly. While I doubt that gangbangers with pistols and SMGs would pose much of a threat to body armoured troops, the US Army's armour would make short work of the Russian invaders (at least as depicted).
Maybe once the Ultranationalists took over Russia after MW1 they put a ton of money and time into upgrading and modernizing their military's technology and infrastructure. I doubt they'd be able to upgrade it that much in five years' time, but hey, fiction.
Man, that mission in the favelas is a lot more fun when I'm not confused as hell and actually have an inkling of where I'm going.
when your in a match with me, and you see a bunch of dead chickens in cages, you are in my crosshairs
Uggggghhhh. Why can't developers do co-op matchmaking? Really? How hard is that to do? I must be the only person who has no real life friends who plays games. First ODST and then this. I mean, even Treyarch managed to put it in and they're supposed to be the "lame" developers.
Finally got to play online last night. Different game, same suckage by me. Talk about getting "pwn'd."
