The lack of a split-screen co-op campaign has pushed this game way down my list.

I picked up my copy this morning. I played a little bit of the campaign and one round of team death match on Terminal. It looks great.

So does it kick ass or what? I had the PC version in my hands at Wal-Mart tonight. But I put it back on the shelf. I'm not sure if I'm going to pick it up or not.

The campaign is a little short, but I thought it was very entertaining.

I still think revealing a battle in D.C. was a huge mistake, though. That would have been an epic plot twist.

This game has four-player offline multiplayer like all the previous COD games, right?

    SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I just finished it and it is quite a ride. They have outdone themselves with this one! The action is spectacular and the plot twists and turns kept my head spinning!

The only thing I don't understand is the whole storyline. What is the deal with Markov and why did the American general turn into a traitor? Gen Sheperd mentions he lost 30,000 men 5 years ago so I am assuming he means in the first MW, but I dont remember 30,000 American Soldiers dying in that game.

The first MW flowed and I could understand the story, but this one really made no sense at all. How did the Russians manage to invade the US without us knowing about it? I still love this game, but I think they needed to work on tying the story together more.

    1. In answers to your questions: easily 30,000 American troops could have been killed in the first MW. The nuke would've probably killed a large fraction.

    2. The Russians hacked the ACS key (which you recover in the first mission with Soap) and disabled the satellite networks.

I just finished the campaign. Very good, fun at times, extremely frustrating as well at times. The story was a little confusing to me too.

So I have the day off, all ready to settle into a day of online gaming only to discover that the online is down for the PS3 version. Thanks a lot guys!

You hit the nail on the head for me with that. I think the storyline is pretty great, but the way its presented is terrible. I mean, whats wrong with cutscenes? The neverending satellite photos bored me to death in between loading the game.

Oh yeah totally agreed. Do they even have enough aircraft carriers to make it to the states? And all that equipment and need for refuel... BTW where was the Cdn Army??? :p JTF2 would've roughed up some russians.

But yeah Russia attacking is stupid. would never happen in real life. But sure was cool though.

    SPOILER ALERT!

Twilight, Thanks I forgot about the nuke in the first MW! I still dont understand why General Shepherd turned against the US and was buddy buddy with Markov. If Zakyav (I forgot how to spell his name) from the first MW was in cahoots with the arab guy who set off the nuke, why would a US general betray his own people to deal with a protoge of Zakyav? The whole story in this one is convoluted to me. What is the purpose of chasing the guy down in Rio de Janero? What is the deal with Markov? After playing the whole game through then going back to replay the missions, I am still pretty confused about the whole story line.

I think this one is better when it comes to the action, but the first MW was better when it comes to the plot.

Tomato, There is no way the Russians could launch a surprise invasion of the US like they did in the game. Even with satellites down we still have radar and I'm sure if the satellites went down we would have air patrols out. It looked like Russian airborne forces were the main force with a few BTRs thrown in for support. That is all fine and dandy, but the Russians aint got that many airborne units that can land all over the US and they wouldnt last very long without heavier divisions. They would be chopped to pieces once the US military started rolling out its units from the various Army posts and bases around the country.

Good god forget your army bases. US civilians are probably better armed than Russians. Imagine them landing in Baltimore or Detroit. The russians will be running home scared.. :guffaw:

But all the criticisms of the storyline are justified. But hey its a video game not Shakespeare.

I didn't find it stupid, but I agree that it would never happen in real life. I think Infinity Ward decided to bring CoD/MW back to its roots in that you're a soldier fighting in a full-on, honest-to-goodness war, and obviously there aren't any wars like that in this day and age, so they decided to make one up.

Was it plausible? No. Was it entertaining? Heck yeah.

    Possible Spoilers

Tomato, You got that right. Wait until the Crips, Bloods, MS 13, etc get their criminal activity trampled on by the Russians. Instead of fighting the Russians the US military would be rescuing them from the numerous gangs that would be attacking them.

Skywalker, I agree a full on war was great to play. After awhile all this "special forces small squad" stuff gets boring. I like playing games where I am a player in a larger war like the early CODs. If the end of the US campaign is any indication perhaps MW3 will have the US invading Russia and taking the fight to the Kremlin in Moscow. I'll like to storm those onion domed buildings!
