Well lets hope with more repeat viewings and last ditch WOM will warp this baby to 250m domestic. But even if it ends up with somewhere around 220m-240m, it would be incredible considering the bad shape the franchise was in before May 8. Actually Star Trek 09 is too good to be true, it's like history in the making... for the franchise of course. :techman:

Yeah, good point. I just watched ST:TMP on Blu-Ray and on the commentary track, one of them (i think Garfield Reeves-Stevens) pointed out four key moments in the franchises history:

    (1) "The Cage" (the beginning)
    (2) ST:TMP (showing it could be a movie franchise)
    (3) "Encounter at Farpoint" (showing that Trek could exist without the original characters)
    (4) JJ's Star Trek movie

I am still not quite used to Steve Mason as a movie box office expert since he does a sport talk show here. He is a cool guy.

The latter (a) showing that Trek could exist with different actors playing the original characters, and (b) providing opportunities for the same classic characters to encounter all-new adventures.

I agree completely with these 4 landmark moments in Trek history. And I'm absolutely giddy that we just witnessed the tremendous success of this last one! :D

Why would the theater count go down by that much if the movie is still performing well; and why no extra IMAX venues?

Quite simply there are newer movies coming out that will likely make more and they have already purchased.

Yup. It's just how it works. You can see how Iron Man started losing theatres at a good pace starting with its 4th weekend too.

Well, I guess if people still want to find the movie, they will be able to do just that for a while longer.

Still pissed about the IMAX thing though. I'm sure there will be "adjustments" for the next movie.

Which I hope will make Iron Man numbers... :)

Same here. I didn't think Trek would make this much money. And I would've laughed in the face of any Paramount exec insisting otherwise.

Trek is doing great and I have no doubt that a sequel will do even better.

    Fun Fact of the Day:

Star Trek is less than $48 million away from becoming a billion dollar film franchise.

Wow... Wouldn't it be great if it were this particular movie that pushed it over that milestone?

    Might be close.

Well Wolverine should lose more next week too. But we'll see. It might lose less than what I said earlier, which now seems too high. I would expect to drop under 3000 though.
