Who the hell do you think you are?

You're correct, but I'll defend to the death his right to say it.

I'm disappointed. When I saw the topic title I figured it was All About Me.

I was expecting to see you and Gogley having a slappy, hissy-fit-style big-girl's-blouse fight over who the thread was about...

It does go both ways, but he also has a point. I personally would think that a show that deals with open mindedness on a regular basis would have fans equally open minded. But from some peoples reactions, it isn't so.

Seriously, it's a movie. If you like it, great. If you don't, well better luck with the next one. But it really makes no sense attacking people for having the opposite reaction to the movie that you do.

Well you can be open minded and still dislike it and question the likes and dislikes of others. its natural. The thing is to be repsectful about it. If others cant we just need to ignore it.

Really? I've yet to see anyone say "I like this film therefore you must like it too."

People are free to dislike it as much as they want, for whatever reasons they want. However, they don't get to move from that to attacking people who do like it.

In fairness, he's right - some of the detractors have been accused of not being very bright. Right here, right in this very forum, by some of us present now.

    Also by Leonard Nimoy.

I havent seen anyone here saying you must hate the film only questioning it. Its a valid point. This is the first new trek in 4 years. Its the biggest sicif release out right now along with Wolverine. Its bound to get some people overating it. I believe its overated and some people letting their excitement and lack of Trek for 4 years cloud their judgements a little. plus the fact the TOS characters are in it. But Im not force feeding them that opinion. If you dont agree with it fine. I have seen some people criticising others for questioning the timeline in this film. So it does work both ways.

Leonard Nimoy was here? I didnt even know he could use a computer.:lol:

There's atleast one thread where the OP pretty much says he's completely insulted by the film, and if you are a trek fan then you have to be insulted too.

.... and that the film is dumb for the dumb masses, making anyone who likes it dumb by extension, and those who criticise it part of a smarter, more select group. Some people have also said that who loves this new film isn't a real Trekkie. I haven't seen anyone say "you don't like it? you're not a Trekkie" yet.

I have seen those threads and posts as well. But again its just opinions and it shouldnt bother anyone. Come on we all knew that it would happen. We shouldnt be surpirsed by it. I didnt like the film very much, but I repsect the fact that people did. I have my reasons(stated above) why I think that reason may be. I feel it was overated. Sorry thats just me. BUT I am happy that others are happy with it. They will have another couple of films to enjoy. But it stops here for me.:techman:

Well I always say, that if you're going to call someone thick, the least you can do is get your grammar right. I don't even mean typos, they don't count.

And hey, I am not calling anyone stupid or less enlightened than I am or any other nonsense in the general direction just because they didn't like it. I'm not insulted by people not liking it. I just think it's curious how personal people can get over a matter of taste.

OK, this meme about Trek withdrawl and resulting overreaction to Trek XI is silly. I suppose most of the 96% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are from hardcore Trekker critics who've finally gotten their fix? Not likely.

It stops here for you? Then why didn't it stop in '02 after Nemsis? Or in 1989 after TFF, for that matter?

I remember the rise of the Elitist Trek fan, twas back in 78-79,when the Enterprise pictures were leaked out, the uniforms etc.

"This isn't Star Trek, and anyone who likes this movie is a moron!"

Well..it's the same tired old story all over again....

Those fans had the re-runs, while the rest of us watched the movies, enjoyed TNG and all that came after. Now those fans have the TOS DVDs (with the old effects) and can remain "Pure" until they die.

Frankly, I don't care, I've always withheld judgement until after I've seen the films (and boy there were some stinkers made!!) I find that I really enjoyed this movie, it's no Citizen Kane, but that's not it's mission. It's made enough money to secure a sequel (and that is it's mission) therefore there will be at least 1 more movie with these characters..

Those who can't adapt have the Blue-Ray discs to keep them happy until they are at room temperature.

    End of Line..

I am one of the few people (it seems) who didn't like The Dark Knight. I made a couple posts about it, explained my reasons, and moved on. I don't understand why some people want to dwell on something that makes them unhappy.

If you don't like it, you don't like it. But why punish yourself by fixating on it? Find something to enjoy--we have.

Indeed. I didn't at all care for the remake of BSG, certain aspects of Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Stargate and various other things, but I don't spend my time ranting & raving about it to all & sundry.
