Buffy and Ted Lasso star Anthony Head dies at 72

What? How can Tony Head be 72? Buffy was on just a few years ago!

Defensive humour aside, sad news indeed.
It's mad. At the time I thought he was just a sweet old man but now that I am approaching his age in Buffy I realise how young and handsome he was.

Looking back now if I was Joyce I would definitely be thinking my daughter was having an affair with her teacher.

His death is a bit shocking because seeing him in Ted Lasso I didn't realise he was anywhere near 72. Also with new Lasso and almost new Buffy I was looking forward to maybe seeing a lot more of him in the future.

I knew and occasionally worked with Sarah for over 20 years, and met Tony a few times socially through her. I cannot think of nicer, more altruistic, grounded and kind, funny couple. I had to do a conference presentation a few years back with her, we got the last slot of the first day and so with Tony's help, managed to write some comedy improv into it. I am so sad for Daisy and Emily experiencing the loss of both parents over less than 6 months.

Well, this sucks. I remember him as the hunky guy in the gold blend ads in the 1980s and then being wowed at how good he was in BTVS. And that wasn’t a fluke, he was great in Doctor Who, The Inbetweeners, Ted Lasso and anything I saw him in. Consensus seems to have been he was a really nice guy in real life too. The fact that his wife died 6 months ago just really rubs salt in the wound for his family.

I really only know ASH through his Doctor Who appearances (he did audio, too) and Merlin. And I found him a delight in Merlin. Oh, Uther waa not nice (and quite proudly so), yet ASH played Uther with a cantankerous charm. He was almost villainous, yet it was impossible not to respect, even grudgingly like him.

When I wrote an outline for a Merlin novel years ago, I didn't have much of anything for Uther to do, unfortunately. He was more the watchmaker; he set the plot in motion, and the kids had to resolve what he began.

Uthur was many shades of gray. (I never finished Merlin.) His Doctor Who villain was a wonderful chance to mustache twirl. Rupert was just evil.

But he'll always be Giles in our hearts.

(Hard to believe that he was only FORTY THREE when he became Giles.)

The sudden and untimely death of his partner must've surrely crippled his health, and I guess he never climbed out of his grief and deppression.
