We are already a third the way through April, so it’s time to get this month’s Art Challenge underway! Apparently, this is the 212th Fan Art Forum Challenge, which is quite the thing in and of itself. As the winner of the 211th Challenge, it is my privilege to host and thus I have chosen to glom off Starscape’s splendid prose from March to re-announce the subject, chosen by a vote of the board’s members:

    80s Animated Mash!

A mash-up of a classic (or obscure) 1980s animation with the 80s Star Trek crew/show/movie of your choice - eg 2280s TOS Movies or 2380s Lower Decks and Prodigy. (And there's always the Short Trek "Children of Mars", snippets from DS9: "The Visitor" and PIC, amongst other bits & bobs.)

    The Rules
    • The artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge.
    • Only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple panels or scenes).
    • Your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated to show progress towards your final entry).

The winner gets to sport the shiny “Art Challenge Winner” banner below their name for the following month, and has the honor of hosting May’s challenge. And be sure to help decide what the theme for next month's contest will be in the “Vote For Your Theme” thread which we’ll be posting later.

You have until midnight on the the first day of May to post your final entries here.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or need more time, let me know.

I will be looking forward to seeing your art. Have much fun in your animated doodlings!

I doubt I will be participating (being an '88 baby, I know little of 80s animation) but I wondered if a list of examples of such shows could be posted for reference.

Do I want to do a Thundercats, He-Man, Voltron, Transformers, Robotech, Silverhawks, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover with the TOS film crew? Decisions, decisions.

I'm hand drawing this one ... I think, so it might be on the Enterprise bridge... which means Transformers are out, unless they're on the viewscreen. Which is a cheat :P

I could. I was thinking Silverhawks needed some love though.

I have been slammed with work. I'm hoping to have something but meh.

I might have to do a quick and dirty 3D render instead of a drawing, if I can find my old Cliffjumper or Bumblebee meshes.

I loved the Flash Gordon 1979-1982 cartoon as a kid. I think a visit to that animated Mongo by Kirks Enterprise would be good. Or maybe Picards? Kirk and Flash vs Ming the Merciless. Maybe the Enterprise crosses into a different timeline/quantum reality, etc. I always thought Kirk was the closest to a Buck Roger, Flash Gordon type in the Trekverse.

I was really looking forward to this one (and had an idea and everything), but I'm sorry to say that I won't be taking part this month :(

I really hope there are loads of entries, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you all come up with :bolian:

Hope everything is okay with you, @Cyfa. I was looking forward to see what you came up with. :)

Here's my 80s Mash-up of "The Wrath of Khan" and "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds":

I made the mistake of watching a few clips of the old show.

Okay, my idea turned out a little cursed, I think. But when I looked at different 80s cartoons and noticed the colorful nature of the Care Bears and how well that would probably mesh with the colorfulness of Lower Decks, I just had to give this a go.

    I present the Care-itos!

@aridas sofia, as the incumbent winner I just wanted to check you're still okay to create the voting thread for this challenge. No pressure. :)
