Prodigy was the show I was excited about. As a man in his mid 40's (almost late 40's) I thought the show was not for me. However, with positive reviews I gave it a chance. I loved it from the start! In my opinion, it is the best current Trek show. I can't wait for season 2.

I don't have any kids but if I did this would be a great show to watch with them. My brother in law is a Trekkie and he is currently watching it with my nephew in first grade.

I did not give a toss about this show until I saw it. Best season-long arc. Definitely the best of the modern Treks. Probably one of the best of all.

I agree, best of the modern treks for sure (IMO).

Best of all Treks is more difficult, because it is very difficult to compare the episodic TOS/TNG/Voyager with Prodigy, and DS9 had ups and downs and started out as episodic and went more arc-based later on. In my view, Prodigy does have the best first season of any Trek show.

Prodigy is unique for a Trek show in the way it handles its arc-based plot and characters (mostly that there is planning behind it and the arcs aren't thrown together or changed at the last minute, but also in the way the characters are specifically tailored for the plot and vice-versa), and manages to combine this unique setup with episodic content as well (that still ends up progressing the arc and/or the characters in some way).

Lower Decks is also good, but it doesn't have the use of arcs that Prodigy does, and Strange New Worlds is a bit hit or miss with me as far as the individual episodes go (though the characters and the designs are excellent). I gave up on Discovery before the end of S1 (lost confidence in the creative vision for that show, and I don't like the production design) and Picard has yet to stick the landing on a satisfying arc.

Best serialized arc show in this trek era. Totally. 100% better than Disco and Picard.

Its a great show, some dud episodes, but overall quite good. Live action writers need to take notice.

Discovery is still my favorite. (Come on, did you really think I'd give it up that easily?! :p )

    BUT

Prodigy has replaced Picard as my runner-up.

Until Picard season 3 proves (or not) otherwise, this is also my favourite current Star Trek series. It just *feels* like Star Trek when you watch it.

I hope that they can get some of the writers on the new spin-off. They seem to know a lot about Voyager so should be able to write for Seven of Nine. :techman:

    Yes, best "new" show easily.
I love that the creators said even tho the show is suitable for children, they don't dumb it down, because kids are smart.

The time-travel stuff was more interesting, complex and mind-bending than anything in the live action shows. Just for one thing.

I hate to say, but it's currently my least favourite new trek. I enjoy it, but it just happens to be the one I'm the least excited about.

Having said that, I enjoyed the second half of the season more than the first, so it's possible it will continue it's upward trajectory.

Also, I'm more interested in Further Prodigy than I am any more Kelvin stuff.

I'm also not trying to crap on anyone else's tastes either. I just never feel hooked into an episode. It's kind of how I felt about Enterprise at the time, and still appreciate that on occasion too.

I'll be continuing to watch. New trek is still new trek after all.

For me, no. The 20 minute time limit limits the show somewhat, though the 20 episode season helps alleviate it somewhat.

TOS/TNG/DS9 remain at the top of the pile for me. Longer episodes, more episodes. And I prefer live action to animation and episodic to serialized.

TOS1 remains the best season of Trek for me. Though some of the high end TNG/DS9 seasons come close.

I think SNW is the best new Trek.

But I will say I think Prodigy wins the prize for exceeding expectations. It is damn good. Waaay better than I thought it would be. LD scores high on that scale as well.

DISCO & PIC had higher expectations from me, and have been disappointing often. But maybe that is more on me. PIC3 has been very good so far. I thought S1 was very good until the end (which still had the lovely Data scene). S2 struggled more but finished better. And I thiugh DISCO got back on track in S4. And also did it's best job at sticking the landing.

But PRO was consistently good (or better) AND stuck the landing. Both at the halfway AND the end.
