That could be potentially be quite good with Ryan Coogler.

Especially if Chris Carter stays far away from it.

I think Carter's right, I'm not sure there's much left to do with the X-Files that they haven't already done but never say never I guess.

Hmm, could be interesting, especially with Coogler involved. Things have changed a lot even just since the eleventh season of the original.
Personally I'd go for a sequel series that acknowledges the original, but does it's own thing, so no more Cigarette Smoking Man or Colonist aliens or any of that.
I really think the concept is open enough that you can do more without Mulder or Scully and still make it work. And doing that way you could have set up potential appearances by Mulder, Skinner, ect as way to draw in old school fans. I know Gillian Anderson said she was done, but I have to wonder if they might be able to convince her to just come back for just one or two appearances.

I might be misinterpreting her, but I get the impression she was done with Chris Carter's writing, especially the gross use of her character in the last season. So perhaps with better writers...?

On the other hand, I don't blame her for wanting to be completely done with the show at this point, regardless of the writers.

I'm gonna pass. I've had my fill of the X-files. I think it worked well in the 90s when there was a bit of hype for Sci-fi dramas of it's kind and alien conspiracies, Roswell tapes, unsolved mystery magazines etc.

Even though it's little more than just an idea at this point, I think any reboot of the X-Files can't simply do what was done before. It's got to be different in tone, pacing, and even it's mythology, IMO. It may help if the show has shorter seasons so there's less episodes to drag things out and a tighter, straight-to-the-point focus maybe.

It should be X-Files—B-Shift. Set exactly at the same time as the original but all the cases are follow-ups or minor things. FBI Special Agents Mariner and Boimler go where some agents have gone before or where no one else would bother. Shenanigans ensue. I’d watch it.

We are nearly to the point where we can have a next generation show with Ben, Emma, the Triplets (Leslie, Chandler, Frank jr jr) and the Bing kids Jack and Erica.

That's pretty much exactly what the X-Files: Albuquerque cartoon was going to be. Doesn't look like it's happening anymore though.

Personally I'll always prefer a continuation of continuity instead of a full reboot, as the original stories never go away in people's minds and it just makes everything more complicated... but this is a special case. X-Files is a damn mess and could do with a full reset to zero in my opinion. Assuming that a series about conspiracies could even work at all these days.

I think it could, just from a totally different angle.
Exposing how readily people believe absolute bullshit if it fits their head narrative.
Make the sceptic right as often as the believer.
But have them properly examine evidence and draw conclusions based on the facts, even if they are supernatural or extraterrestrial

    Clickbait site is gonna clickbait.

Ryan Coogler talked to Carter about rebooting it. That's all. Pretty damn far from it happening. Nothing written. Nothing greenlit. Nothing No team in place.

The biggest problem with The X Files now is that in the 90's the conspiracy stuff was still fun. Now it's almost entirely alt right bull shit, and you can't do a longform multi season conspiracy drama pulling from real life without either directly rebuking stuff like Q Anon (which has combined pretty much all the old conspiracies under it's wing) or passively promoting it by not clearly and decisively debunking it.

I see where you're coming from wayoung. It reminds me of the problem The Boys had on television last season that kind of illustrates what you are saying. No matter how obvious it is to most of us that Homelander is evil and a parody of Donald Trump, the nature of his "evil" went over the heads of a lot of right wing Trump supporters who consider Homelander to be the misunderstood hero of the story.

    Except...

The conspiracy arcs of the show were always my least favorite episodes of the show, especially in the later seasons. I was always much more interested in the cryptids, monsters, creatures, and likewise from mythology, folklore, and legends. I loved delving into those weird stories and those were still the highlights of the last two seasons.

Yes, I grew up loving the alien conspiracies but what really left a lasting impression was the otherwordly weirdness. Didn't help that Carter tied himself into soooo many unnecessary knots just to keep the mystery going instead of ever resolving. Anything. Ever.

That's why I think with a new set of writers and showrunner can bring back a freshness to the lore that Carter washed away.

I always thought that the Alien conspiracy arc should have ended shortly after the movie--or even two years later at the latest with another movie. The show would have fared better in the later seasons if it had set up a new ongoing arc--and I think that arc should have been either mystical based or something based in urban myth like a monster cover up or similar. The biggest problem with the alien conspiracy theory is that it kept becoming more convoluted without resolution, and ceased to make any sense as the show went on.

I would love a reverse X-Files show: where they discover that conspiracies are actual B.S.
