The idea that the Changelings want Picard's body and Jack because of Iromudic Syndome doesn't make sense to me. Vadic expressedly talks about Starfleet ships being destroyed. You don't use a disease for that.

She also doesn't need Picard, a retired Admiral, or Jack, who isn't even Starfleet, to Starkiller up the fleet on Frontier Day. With them already chain linking the fleet and the weapons Vadic has at her disposal, the fleet is as good as dead anyway.

I'm thinking now that the corpse and Jack are statements for the changelings to make. Jack somehow can detect changelings and go all augment on them. That's not irumodic syndrome. That's some kind of biological weapon.

Vadic is going to parade Picard's corpse and claim that Starfleet has been unfairly hiding resurrection for the masses. She's going to parade Jack as Starfleet's newest instrument of genocide against the changelings. After the whole galaxy has seen that, then she'll order the compromised fleet to fly into the sun, or whatever.

It's not enough for changelings to just show up and blow everyone up. They need to tell the galaxy why they're doing it first.

Maybe they not only want to destroy Starfleet on Fleet Day but also make it look like it was done by Picard himself? That's the only thing I could think of.

Maybe the Borg tried to assimilate the Changelings, and it ended up infecting them somehow, and there's something in Picards DNA that could cure them. So they stole his body, but the cure died with him, and so they are hoping he's past it on to Jack's DNA?

This one earns an 8! Very solid entertainment. No strong complaints, but not quite a near classic or classic. But far above typical television.

This episode was half a step behind the previous two. I thoroughly enjoyed it mostly for the character work. Geordi with his daughters and, especially, Jack with Seven and Jack with Sidney. Any doubts anyone had about them grooming these characters for their own series should be gone now! Clearly, the producers have more plans for them. (Perhaps for the rumored Dominion War series, covering its aftermath?)

The ship porn at the museum was certainly fun!

On the downside, the heist should have been portrayed better--more intense, a plan, action. More heisty with an adversarial AI. I mean, this is the top S31 research and storage facility. But no, it was mostly a musical puzzle. The flashback to Encounter at Farpoint was nice. But it was lacking as a heist.

The pacing of the episode was a bit off. I didn't notice who directed the episode, but that's the source of the problem. The earlier parts felt rushed, particularly the portions with humor. Some of those earlier scenes just need a little more time to let them breathe. Some later scenes, such as those involving Jack and Seven and Jack and Sidney, had extra time and flourished. So, the direction was a bit uneven. P+ needs to realize that these are streaming episodes so giving them some extra time can be worthwhile.

So, Kirks remains are there too? Interesting.

I still think Vadic and Co. are after some special Locutus nanites. Perhaps they have Executive privileges in the Borg network? Or maybe the can undo whatever has befallen the Changelings at the molecular level? Clearly, they weren't in JL's remains. So, they're hoping Jack has some.

Welcome back, Data! Or whoever you'll eventually become! Nice way to bring back an aged version.

"A" for me. Starship and reference porn. I'm in my mid-40s now and I love this.
I don't care. I'm not Gene Shalit here.

I really, really hope not. There's fanservice, and then there's something so far beyond fanservice that it cannot be described. I really don't want to see Kirk in this show.

That could be amusing. But...no. No Kirk, please.

    So did I.

    Holy shit.

I normally avoid giving any episode 10 out of 10. I firmly believe that should be used by only the best of the best episodes and there's only a handful of those. TOS: "Balance of Terror"; TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds" and "All Good Things..."; DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars" and "In the Pale Moonlight"; that sort of level. How can I in good conscience review an episode as 10 out of 10 that might be bettered next week? Surely better to just go with a strong 8 or 9?

This episode moved me to tears. Twice. I had to pause and recompose myself before I carried on watching. This is pretty unique for me. I have never rated an episode at 10 out of 10 on first watching before. Later reassessed, sure. But "live"? When the season is yet to complete? Never.

This episode was fan service, sure. But, like "Trials and Tribble-ations", it was fan service done right.

10/10. Unreservedly. God I love this show.

They cleaned up the saucer - adding Kirk’s body is no big deal.

I can't wait until the end. I really am fascinated by the effervescent descriptions around the fan service here. It is a unique experience among recent seasons.
