As a test for resurrection? It doesn't necessarily need to be they want more Kirks or Picards. They just want a tool.

It's pretty obvious to me at least given Shaw's speech to Picard about Locutus they want to re-create Locutus. Why else would they educate non hardcore fans about Locutus.

This was my least favorite episode so far UNTIL THE LAST 12 minutes. Holy crap Terry has perfected the BOBW cliffhangers.

    Reactions in roughly chronological order:

    - I am extremely dubious that Jack's visions are because he inherited Picard's syndrome thingie. Thinking that's either a well-cloaked surprise for the third act, or that's not Beverly Crusher giving the diagnosis.
    - They broke Seven and Raffi up off-screen? Again? FFS...
    - Yesss Beverly hugs.
    - Worf remains the highlight of this season. Michael Dorn's delivery is just -chef's kiss!-
    - I feel like I missed something wrt to the fleet all "speaking" to each other now. I get why Picard would be in the dark about why the ship was so easy to track, but not Shaw and Titan's crew.
    - Oh, Daniel Davis, you still chew the scenery magnificently! :luvlove:
    - Thanks, Alton. Still glad you're dead. May you be the last of the Soongs.
    - Not digging the dialogue between Geordi and Sydney. I wish they'd drop the pilot vs engineer bits; Geordi was flying the ship before he was an engineer, after all.
    - The family theme is just so heavy-handed; again, this is an area where I just can't seem to find any emotional purchase.
    - I am so here for the kids causing mischief. These three have ridiculously good chemistry together.
    - DAMMIT, RIKER, DON'T YOU DARE TURN THAT THING ON!
    - "Jack." "Sydney." Fucking. Perfect.
    - Back to not really caring about Jack Picard. I get what they were going for in this scene, but I wish they'd phrased Jack's growing admiration for his dad in a way that didn't make it sound like an insult to Bev.
    - I'm very interested in why the Changelings wanted Picard's fleshy castoffs. If nothing else, it feels like they're going to try and do something substantial with the fact that he's a synth now.

Overall, feeling like it's a step or two down from last week. The reunions were nice and I liked the kids conspiring to tick off the veteran crew in good cause, but the heist portion of the episode wasn't as strong as I was hoping for, the Jack and Jean-Luc bits generally don't do a lot for me, and the name drops were so thick on the ground that it was distracting. On Lower Decks, to contrast, the show is paced so quickly most of their callbacks are blink-and-you'll-miss-it jokes; here, it felt like they lingered too long on most them.

So I guess it's radical marriage counseling for Will and Deanna next week? :D

Geordi's still kicking himself over his "I wish I had a picture of this" bit to Zefram Cochrane, and not remembering at the time that he could've just pulled out the PADD in his hand and taken a photo right there. For some reason he was influenced by late 20th century 1996 thinking at the time. ;)

This episode has open and shameless fan service... and I am absolutely being a shameless whoregirl geeking out, it's made me forgot the fiasco to me that was Discovery. This in my opinion is how you reward fans for decades of waiting for actual new material.

    A 10/10 - a masterpiece.

They should have kept it that Riker didn’t know what Section 31 is. Make him the last person to know.
I saw the NX Refit. That’s either the Enterprise or the Endeavour. I like that they kept it vague to preserve the novels.

Yeah, I don't think any amount of money could convince Patrick to get back into that Borg makeup again so this is unlikely. Furthermore to stage a fake Borg attack when the Changelings want revenge and recognition for their grievances just seems nonsensical.

I enjoyed all the fan service in this one plus the footage from farpoint was incorporated well. Wasn’t one of the big rumours for this season they recreated the D bridge set? That’s going to be ultimate fan service. Can’t wait to see it.

Outside of his Irumodic Syndrome, the only other notable thing about Picard's original body is that he could sense/hear the Borg Collective without any implants. Could his Irumodic Syndrome have been brought on by the alterations the Borg made to his brain?

Changelings control Starfleet. why do they need to steal from a facility that's they themselves control?

But I am sure Jack Crusher would gladly step into the role of Locutus, into the makeup.
