Playing the hell out of Hogwarts Legacy... it's proving to be quite fun. Brings back my days as a hardcore Potterhead.

Checked out a few strategy game demo's from Steam's Next Fest

    - Phantom Brigade
Mech Combat with a cool twist - you can predict enemy movement for the next 5 seconds of combat and can plan your actions accordingly. There's Mech and Weapon Upgrades, which i always like. Definitely recommended and i'll be getting it as soon as it comes out. Crashed a few times but i hope they'll use the demo feedback to fix the worst errors before fully releasing it. Definitely recommended.

    - Broken Arrow
WW3 What if game between NATO and Soviets from the makers of the Wargame series. Seems to be quite realistic but also quite complex, the demo doesn't help you at all and seems to assume you've played the previous games and are familiar with the basic. Tough luck if you're a newcomer.

    - Xenonauts 2
A clone of the original X-Com game with barebones graphics ( seriously guys, it's 2023). Don't know if i need to replay the old X-Com just with a new graphics skin, feels more like a fan made mod.

    - The Great War: Western Front
WW1 trench fighting strategy game- Started it up and was bombarded with the rules and walls of texts for the UI in the tutorial for what seemed like an eternity up to the point that i gave up and had not even truly begun a tactical battle due to all the things you need to do pre-battle. Looks pretty though. Will probably pass on it.

Sure! I can definitely say from the first few missions, that it's a very immersive game. Think GTA V, Watchdogs, Metal Gear Solid, and Skyrim on steroids. The attention to character detail is excellent, the storyline so far is interesting, and the whole world in the game feels alive: it rains, people move about and talk to each other, to you, you can interact with almost everything. I have sweated more than once trying to complete a mission because crowd awareness matters, it's a lot of fun.

    I'm working on Hogwart's Legacy

But I also ordered a Retro Fighters N64 controller for the Nintendo Switch, seeing as how it's impossible to find a first party N64 controller on the Nintendo Store (thanks, scalpers! ) I'm really liking the controller. Instead of having the control stick in the middle, it's on the left side, like a GameCube controller (or any modern controller). It has rumble functionality. The only weird thing is the Z button as been moved to where the trigger spots would be on a modern controller.

I've also been playing some of the newly added Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games they added to Switch Online.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty busy reliving my happy years at Hogwarts now, but will keep my eye on that one.

After procrastination, much, much of that I got the steam version of Saints Row 3 remastered on my birthday, have been playing that and had to restart because I messed something up with my save file. So yay me. It's fun but the AI is a bit more broken then the original. Cars or people keep attacking you for no reason sometimes. The old one did that too but not to this extent. Anyway I screwed up my save file somehow so am starting over, only I did top up my bank account with a money cheat and have millions .....

I just finished the first and second run through. What a hell of a game! There are even more endings, but I landed the best ending first, so yay me! :D

Then I went back and played the opposite choices, and holy cow, what a depressing ending.

So yeah, definitely the first ending, and the story was great, the message behind the game is great. It's just so well done, and on my four year old Linux system it ran buttery smooth.

This game has unexpected levels, really good writing and fun character interactions.
Still trying to understand all the card mechanics, but once I get a grasp on them there are for sure some nice synergies.

coming to the last 30 percent of Saints Row 3 remastered, really this doesn't at all feel that different to the original version, it's got about the same amount of bugs as that version, maybe one or two more and seems to be a cosmetic overhaul more then anything else but the hair. Why da hair has to look like plastic?

I’ve been trying to get into Breath of The Wild for about the 4th time but it’s such a struggle. It’s just so empty and boring.

Careful....... Not a popular opinion on many gaming forums haha, thank goodness this is not a gaming forum. I expressed that once on such a place and was not prepared for the onslaught.

It is funny how protective people get over it. I told a work colleague that I didn’t enjoy it and she couldn’t believe it. I just don’t think they’ve done the open world thing very well. Long periods of just running about countryside trying to get from A to B.

Got SpiderHeck for game night. It's a fun little game where you're spiders with weapons and you can fight each other or fight together to survive levels against enemies.

    I just finished Cyberpunk 2077.

    [ MILD SPOILERS AHEAD ]

I played all three starting roles, and found 4 out of 6 endings. It was a lot of fun, but it has some flaws. The biggest one, for me, is replayability. The game isn't really designed to be played openly after you "win." Unlike GTA V, which lets you loose on the game map to do whatever you want after the story is complete, with Cyberpunk 2077, and the end credits roll, you are taken back at just before the whole endgame sequence, meaning your gear is still malfunctioning, you still cough up blood, you still see Johnny everywhere, and the game keeps trying to push you to complete it.

I'm hoping they release a patch that changes it so you get to resolve the story and then have the open map to play without the Johnny/failing Relic issues.

The second big issue for me is that the starting roles stop being meaningful after the first half hour. You're dropped into the main storyline, and aside from some extra options in your responses, it doesn't play into the main story much at all. It kind of feels superfluous.

More of a minor quibble is that so many places in the game seem like you can travel there and go inside, only to find the door is "locked" with no way inside, even if it's supposed to be a 24/7 always open facility.

So the exploration aspect of the game isn't quite as good as I'd hoped it be, but if you're more an FPS type player anyway, the game is going to be a lot of fun for you.

That said, just on the game itself, it was exciting, intriguing, and immersive. Night City is a hell of a great setting, and if you love the future punk look of movies like Bladerunner, you are going to love the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

I really enjoyed it, but I do wish it had that openness GTA V had. I've played that game for 8 years now, and never get tired of just roaming the map free to do whatever.
