Relax, all modern oleds have all sorts of anti-burn in protection and by the time you'd see any burn-in, you'll long since have replaced the tv anyway.

    Further minor non-canon complaints:
Overuse of phrases like "picard is so great, riker is great, they are so decorated, they are legends" etc. cringeworthy fan service.
Would have been better if Picard took command at the end BUT Shaw was the one that said "i know my ship" and executed some special Shaw evasive manouvere. Shaw is going to be the eventual hero but they are stretching out his stupidity/weakness/crankiness a bit too far.
Worf intro was a little spoilt...he executed the first guy but you see a split second of his face, surely all his street fighter moves should have been done first and THEN the big reveal.
I think sarcastic Raffi is better than "im desperate" Raffi, i think she doesn't play the character as convincingly.
How convenient of her ex to know the gangster ferengi.

Best bit of the whole episode was when Picard and Crusher made eye contact, no dialogue but they both knew what each was trying to say, excellent.

And JLP & Riker are older, they aren't anywhere near their prime, so she has even more reason to think less of them.

Which in turn reveals that her offer to let them go if they hand over Jack to be a lie.

We really didn't get all that many references to Kirk and his crew being decorated legends in the TOS Movies. It was just taken for granted that Kirk's five-year mission in TOS was so famous and historic that generations of Academy Cadets would be learning about those adventures and memorizing some of the log entries. In GEN Captain Harriman says he remembers reading about Kirk's missions when he was in grade school (cue the awkward Kirk facial twitch and head movement) but other than that, yeah. We know he's a legend. HE'S JAMES T. KIRK.

Intelligence can't be 100% external facing; at least not to be successful. Internal and external forces intertwine. Two of the biggest intelligence "failures" in recent memory in the U.S., 9/11 and Russian influence in 2016, were a mix of both.

Do you think there will ever come a day when Starfleet mandates that all starships travel in pairs? Lone vessels are such easy pickings for malevolent forces.

It's a little glaring now since Pike's missions in Strange New Worlds before Kirk may well end up having greater ramifications in-universe than Kirk's and he really shouldn't be so special.

Off-topic, I am annoyed that after buying that other Star franchise, Disney somehow decided to change Vader's fame as Number 2 man in the galaxy trumpeted across the old continuity's books and games into strange psychotic hermit who lives on a lava planet that no one in-universe seemingly knows about, not even much of the Imperial military.

Terry Matalas said that the pump action phaser weapon in S03E01 was a nod to the game "Voyager Elite Force".

Is he going to say something similar about using the tractor beam as an offensive weapon?

That is something from "Klingon Academy":

    General Chang:

Using a tractor beam this way is very obvious. Heck, Wesley developed a similar concept on the fly in TNG S01E03.
Why are all the characters look so dumbfound?

The only downside is you can only use a tractor beam while the shields are off. Not ideal in a combat situation.
But they can use phasers and disruptors through shields, so they could find a way to use tractor beams through shields.

Matalas said on Twitter that there does seem to be some over saturation on some of the platforms and they are looking into it.

After watching and rewatching; (3 times now) it's with a heavy heart I have to give this episode a 5.

The whole dynamic between Seven and Shaw just doesn't sit right with me, yes I get that "Commander Hansen" is really trying with regards to her career but she has been toned right down it appears, something that really doesn't do her character any favours or justice; this is NOT our Seven! Starfleet or otherwise.

Worf returning was absolutely fantastic if overly predictable; we ALL knew he was Raffi's handler.

I don't particularly enjoy the back and forth between Jack and Picard, again it all seems a bit forced.

The face to face between Beverly and Picard was an absolute dream, you could see clearly every damned emotion and it pulled at me a little bit. Her in her vulnerable state and the love and loyalty on his face really did tug a little bit at the heart strings.

I am still not completely sold on Vadic, i found it all a little bit cringeworthy, her smile sent shivers up my spine, which is no doubt the effect they were going for but still, ew.

Everyone knew Jack was going to be revealed as his son but i don't like the rushed way in which Picard reacted to completely defend him. The writing here doesn't sell me at all.

I'm hoping for more scenes with LaForge, she seems like a fun and quirky character with more to come and very adept at piloting a starship, the timing for her was absolutely spot on.

Raffi is completely unnecessary, I think Elnor would have served in the role much better and exploring the whole Klingon/Romulan dynamic would have been fantastic, Michelle Hurds acting so far has been more than questionable and I really don't agree with how quickly she would inject herself with whatever that was to achieve her goal; especially after "working" for so long to be clean. The tone and quickness just feel completely unrealistic, at least to me.

For the Worf return and the face to face of Beverly and Picard alone earns this a 5, maybe a 6 at a push but we'll see what happens next week.

I don't have a lot of time today. So I'll just say this episode hit ALL the right notes. An easy 10.

I took a second look at it and no, it just appears to be a generic baseball. Would have been cool, though.

I think Rios would have been my pick for this role especially as he has captained La Sirena, would have been more convincing espsecially if he was consulting all his holograms trying to work out what was going on ...should have rolled him over to Season 3, big missed opportunity!

Strangely enough Raffi's plotline brought the one realistic seeming element into my episode viewing, that bit when she is asked what she values more, her work or her son and she chooses her work. Reminds me of my own mother (minus the substance abuse of course).

because she's trying not to get kicked out.

    It's not Sisko's.
