I actually used that as a title for a paper that I wrote in college - although, after 35 years, the title is the only thing that I remember about the paper.

Bold words. Nothing will make them shut up, they'll invent new things to be upset about.

I'm sure Picard Season 3 will be that good... BUT...

If it really turns out to be the case: The stragglers won't actually care about how good it is. William Shakespear could come back from the dead, Gene Roddenberry could come back from the dead, The Great Bard & The Great Bird could write something spectacular and it could be directed by an also-resurrected Stanley Kubrick, and with that kind of All-Star Talent, they'd still find a way to complain for exactly four reasons:

    1. It was made in the 2020s, not the 1990s.
    2. It doesn't line up 100.0% with what they want.
    3. Canon. Always canon. The more minute, the more important.
    4. They'll follow the herd. If the Fandom Menace (Doomcock, Midnight's Edge, MechaRandom42, etc. ) says it's bad, and everyone else in those circles says it's bad, they'll follow the herd, and echo the echo chamber. "It sucks!" "Have you seen it?" "No! And I don't need to!"

If it's good, it doesn't matter. If it's legitimately bad (as in for real reasons, and not what I listed above), it doesn't matter.

I don't think 100% will be won over. If I like it, I'll be happy if 67% are won over. Fandom is like politics. It's not about the unanimous, it's about the majority (half) and the super-majority (two-thirds). Once you have the super-majority, you're golden.

How about The Interregnum Paradigm? It sounds like a TOS title.

The Fandom Menace and gatekeepers will just attack Picard harder if season 3 is good.

Yes, The Interregnum was a fake episode that had its own discussion thread in the Enterprise forum and I think was eventually "novelized" in the Fan Fic forum.
I was actually referencing Daleks of the New Paradigm from Doctor Who.

FWIW, I am very anti-Discovery/SNW (and anti-Abramsverse films), but haven't been this excited to see a season of TV (Picard season 3) since the final season of The Americans, my favorite prestige drama, in 2018. Hopefully there's some room for nuance.

They've been declaring Disco cancelled for the past four seasons.

OT: A fan once picked a fight with John Byrne when Byrne was doing Wonder Woman (Byrne's stories didn't match the fan's head canon! )

There's just no pleasing some people. :(

You weren't who I had in mind when I made my last post. Even though we haven't really hashed it out, I've got a feeling you don't like Discovery for legitimate reasons that I simply disagree with or don't find to be an issue, and it wouldn't go further than that. I'm pretty sure you're not one of those "STD sucks! They made Star Trek woke! Burnham's a Mary Sue!" types.

I won't defend the Abrams Films because I'm not a fan of those either.

I can only hope it works well for those who are so excited.

Yes, including about 3 full page press portrait images, it is 10 pages.

The SFX editor, Darren Scott interviewed Matalas, Frakes and McFadden and the article was extremely positive, he qualifies in a "Welcome" editorial column that he saw the series in December.

There are some new press photos that haven't been in the trailers to date: the most notable: Seven, Picard, Riker standing in a Conference/Ready Room; Vadic leading three of her lanky cronies; Seven's uniform is quite tight fitting; Picard sitting on a bridge chair.

Most of it has been discussed in interviews with Matalas in the past via Twitter, online articles and forums posts here.
    • Scale of the show, Matalas would have actually called it Star Trek: Legacy, rather than Picard. Editor says S3 earns the right to be called cinematic - Matalas says, "It is gigantic. I still cannot believe we got away with it." They talk about storytelling and serialized television, and how in this next journey, you will get "Next Gen" feels 'back for sure'.
    • Talking about the characters, Matalas says they all had a great time, and would love to do it again - maybe in a 'next, next Generation story'.
    • Besides the TNG cast, Matalas wanted to do/see more of Janeway, and the DS9 characters - would 'die' to see Quark, and would 'love' to see the Doctor from Voyager. But says it's in the hands of the Star Trek gods.
    • Matalas talks about this season having a "game-changing" event in Star Trek history, that is like 'ST VI: Undiscovered Country' - something everyone will remember. Is quick to quieten and reassure the anticipated fandom noise that it would undo 'Star Trek' or make it feel less...
    • Frakes lauds the biggest Star Trek yet, says it is "very filmic, but hit has a little First Contact vibe." Confirms he was anxious, in a positive way; he directs episodes 3 and 4 and his character has a conflict with Picard. Notes the Roddenberry vision that family should be conflict-free but points to Terry's good work in creating the drama around different points of view and how it is handled.
    • Both Frakes and McFadden want the direction to lead to another series. On movies, Frakes views 'TV seems the future', citing that if Hawley and Tarantino can't get a movie made... McFadden is open to a new series, would like to do a film, as long as it doesn't focus on one lead character - she feels they are best as an ensemble: "we really are family and the family should shine."
    • Frakes says that the show is filled with old people - Stewart in his 80s, most are in their 70's, with Levar the youngest at 65; notes how the dynamics works well with everyone in the cast. McFadden similarly is of the view how everything came together, and how everyone works really well - the input they as actors had with the writers, and sings praise of the cast, new cast and characters.
    • Both Frakes and McFadden think the weirdest Trek merchandise they've seen is Pez dispensers in their likeness.
    • Matalas confirms Pulaski is not there, Enterprise E does not appear, but confirms a reference to Tasha Yar. Says the whole experience was surreal and confirms that there is tremendous pressure to get it right.
    • Matalas is not currently working on anything Star Trek at the moment; he is doing a reimaged pilot for Disney+ - "Witch Mountain" with one of his 12 Monkeys colleagues - Travis Fickett. He is humble in saying how Picard Season 3 will go determines what is next - though said he has ideas for more Star Trek in "this time period" saying "they know where to find me."

IIRC, the show's working title was Star Trek: Destiny.

    No kidding ...

Or he's not allowed to say anything (NDA).

Disclaimer: I'm not a Republican and I don't agree with his politics at all (although both of my parents voted for him!) but, when I read this, I immediately thought of what Ronald Reagan said, and how the TNG Cast are now in the same position as him. :p

Thanks for posting highlights from the Sfx magazine. I saw some new Star Trek Picard previews on my local CBS channel it looks exciting . And they mentioned the new preview being shown during the next football game. Just a heads up Star Trek Explores magazine is supposed to be coming out around February 22 with an interview with Jeri Ryan and more articles about Picard season 3. The Star Trek Mag twitter page mentioned it.

I think I must be in the minority of Trek Fandom.
I get excited about any new Trek coming along and have enjoyed all of the shows and movies immensely.
