Well, from the outset, it completely ruins one of the best and most emotional scenes in Trek history. On the other hand, there's no way to bring back George Kirk *without* doing so.

Bringing Jim into the past, though, and having him decide whether or not to alter history again to save his father, that would at least keep me in my seat.

It didn't really sound like a "transporter clone" to me, but considering we actually see George at the moment of the collision and explosion, it'd pretty much have to be the case. Well, I guess they could work around the shots we have, squeeze a bunch of stuff into the cut. Kelvin crashes into Narada, George is thrown out of the captain's chair as the bridge crumples, he climbs to his feet in the pile of rubble and runs for the transporter room, begins to beam out, reaction shot of Winona watching the Kelvin explode.

Still, it didn't seem like a good idea to me in the first place, I'm not sure why I'm trying to use a prybar to fit in this retcon except by sheer force of habit.

Probably, which is why this isn't being made.

I'm ALL for Jim meeting his Dad. It's the sci-fi magic way of really dealing with the daddy issues he had for three movies.

But the plan they had wasn't great. It undermines the sacrifice in the first movie, which is what made the character great to begin with. You don't do that.

They could have used a million other means to bring the Kirk's together: Carl the Guardian of Forever, Q, some magical alien time machine or other. Most of which pluck George out of time just before the Kelvin disaster - which adds the obvious sad angsty ending where he has to go back to take his place in history. This stuff writes itself.

...and the best they can do is a "dancing dots" transporter clone from the wreck of the Kelvin because George wasn't sacrificing himself after all. Sigh.

Thingking about this, there is no callender date for the next Bond move but that doesn't mean it wont get made
may be a callender date is a bit of a red herring.

If there was a TNG transporter episode to lift from, Second Chances might have been an interesting one. Kirk and company stumble upon a stranded George Kirk transporter double that was created years before the former's birth. You have George struggling with the knowledge that he's gone down in history for a heroic sacrifice that he himself didn't do and Kirk trying to grapple with being around a man who both is and isn't his father. Age up Hemsworth to an appropriate level, have some action plot to stick them both in, and let the rest of the cast work their magic.

Wouldn't be perfect, but there's potential there.

If we're going to rehash old Trek plots, the best would be City on the Edge of Forever. Kirk et al. are sent back in time to a week / month / year before the Kelvin incident. Spock can rehash his famous line: "Jim. George Kirk must die."

I just… would like to see the Enterprise 1701-A soar through deep space - for just one movie, at the very least!

    [sigh!]

Sofia Boutella would like to return as Jaylah.

If ST-K IV happens, I 'd like to see this. Her character was a lot of fun and it'd be a laugh to see how Jaylah got on at Starfleet Academy. Now that (very sadly, and without recasting) Chekov isn't around, there's room in the ensemble. New navigator for the Kelvinverse's 1701-A?

Jaylah would be better suited to Security Chief. The new navigator will be a spy and a traitor.

This seems like the easiest fix to fill the navigator position. I like her. I'm all for it.

I thought so too. She brought a lot to Beyond. It'd be nice to see her back.

I’d like some version of Arex to fill Chekhov’s seat in a potential STK:4.

Which why I've been rooting for a DISCO movie; it's the longest running streaming Star Trek series for Paramount ALL ACCESS Plus and it would be in line in a tradition for a senior series to be promoted to the big screen.
