Introduction to Star Trek concepts, not every single little detail and character.

Besides, Seven is busy in Picard. She should stay there, please and thank you.

I had the same thought: another filler after we just had a filler, turning into Disco S4 or PIC S2

But they could get Seven of Nine and Janeway in a room together for a face off in this toon during the time period that Seven was a recruit of the Rangers. Janeway could look at what Seven had become after nurturing her on Voyager and feel some form of guilt for not helping her more and preventing her from becoming a bandit/freedom fighter/pirate… instead of joining Starfleet like she should have done.

They haven't even get in to Prodigy Season 2 and people are already borrowing trouble worrying about a handful of supposed filler episodes?

Further proof that Trek writers can't win. Go too fast through the story and you get "Slow down! Focus on the secondary and tertiary characters. We haven't learned all about that one person who had two lines! We need his full story!" Some filler episodes, "Speed up! Oh my Roddenberry, how dare they linger on this boring filler garbage. Get to the story! We don't need this!"*

    W...T...F??? :wtf::wtf::sigh:

*hyperbole just for a bit of fun.
So...instead of focusing on the main characters we will bring in a secondary character, introduce them and their struggles, and an organization that will see no payoff in the show? For some reason, this strikes me as an odd choice...:vulcan::shrug:

Janeway is already an established character in this toon, Chakotay too even though he has been quite ‘wooden’ so far. It would not be an odd choice to add Seven of Nine in to the mix because she will be in the live action Picard season 3. Of course there is also the not so secret Seven of Nine spin-off that a younger audience can be introduced to too. Also a bit of backstory for the old skool fans. :bolian:

Hopefully, a lot of Prodigy still lies ahead. Who knows who else will show up?

agreed, we have Janeway and Chakotay as a MacGuffin we really don’t need to shoehorn Seven in there too.

Let this show be what it is, not just a set up for a Seven of Nine series that may or may not happen.

Bad Holo-Janeway must have been activated before the crew decided not to contact Star Fleet because she made sure that all 86 tries in the holodeck failed.

I think her hidden coding was activated when they buried the Protostar in the snow.
It was just the fact that the kids ran into real Janeway and things went south, that HJ didn't reveal her new coding.

just finished. I liked the beginning (seeing the kids be kids over ice cream) and the twist ending. But everything in between…bleh.

We know there's a season two, but I'm thinking now the Protostar goes kablooey in the finale.

I see no need for the harsh vibes, I mean I fell in complete love with this episode when the beautifully rendered black and white scenes graced the screen... The references to ice cream as an antidepressant were pleasing to my adult ear, the "hard pass" comment made me chuckle, and rock creature going The Thing on some baddies was perfection. I thought it was another artistically animated and paced episode, and man does this Trek series know how to leave the audience wanting more, as in the next episode already! I continue to be amazed at how much exposition this show fits into 22 minutes...

This was a fun episode. Murph the lounge singer was the highlight, but it was all in good fun, and I honestly like Zero's use of the holodeck. Hopefully we might see one like that show up in another season, where they have to solve a mystery in the program (a la "The Big Goodbye" or such).

What about providing good stories? I don’t see many complaints about the self-contained episodes in lower decks or the Orville, even when they don’t advance the main plot.
Last week was mostly filler but kinda worked somehow, this for me really didn’t.

seems they want to stay true to VOY then!

as of now that’s just a rumor afaik.

I remember reading an interview with Kate Mulgrev in which she mentioned that she would like to bring the entire cast of VOY to Prodigy (so I suspect we could be given more dialogue on what happened to most of the VOY crew via Prodigy).

As for 7 of 9 and Janeway falling out... actually, that didn't happen.
In ST: Picard, Seven mentioned that Starfleet had reservations about allowing her to officially serve as a commissioned officer due to her Borg past, which stalled her application to SF academy.

Seven even mentioned that Janeway vouched for her extremely hard, and Janeway ALMOST had a falling out with Starfleet over the issue, but then Seven decided to withdraw her application and join the Fenris rangers instead.

As far as I know, Seven and Janeway didn't have a falling out... Seven simply chose a different direction, and probably kept in touch with Janeway via subspace.

It really didn't make sense to me that SF would discriminate against Seven over her Borg past.
She was assimilated at a young age without consent, and then went on to serve on VOY in a science capacity - and in the process, greatly helped the crew of VOY, helped push forward in regards to propulsion technology [slipstream etc.], and the crew also helped Seven finding her own path to humanity and individuality.

Given that Icheb was accepted into the Academy over subspace and was trained as a cadet on VOY, I have a hankering suspicion that had Seven decided to apply to the Academy with Icheb while VOY was still in the DQ, she would have gotten in at the time (because, back then, VOY still had years to reach UFP, and as such, SF wouldn't be too preoccupied with a former Borg drone having commissioned rank on a ship on its way back to the Federation - and having them on VOY as commissioned officers was useful to the ship/crew).

Something may have happened in between after VOY returned home and when Seven decided to try and join SF (we don't know when she actually tried to do so - but it seems to have been after the events of synths attack or something else related to the Borg that would have stopped SF from accepting Seven's application to the Academy, and since Icheb was already in, it would have looked bad to expell him - especially because he probably integrated well and didn't have a problem following SF protocols).

There's that, and the fact that Seven had some issues butting heads with Janeway and the command staff (which probably didn't go in her favour when making a face to face application). On VOY, SF knew she would have been working under people who knew how to handle her, so accepting her application over subspace while she was in the DQ would have likely worked.. in person/on Earth, she was an unknown and a potential disruption for the chain of command - at least, that's the way I tried to explain it.

Not sure what people are complaining about. Prodigy has a solid Trek story, and its mainly oriented towards kids as an introductory series.

Given the shorter run-time of each episode compared to live Trek and the overall story structure, there's only so much you can cram into an episode and make it work.
Even in live action series, we didn't get to learn about other character backgrounds until later in the season (or even until next season).
Overall, I think Prodigy has a solid grasp on things all things considered (its certainly not perfect, but compared to most live action Trek series and how they started out, Prodigy [if you ask me] is well ahead of the curve).

The good thing about this series is that it has a same team of writers. This allows for better continuity and consistency (but yeah, I certainly don't expect perfection).
