Also, at the very beginning of the series, Shatner was quite slender. Kirk was never overly muscular until the Kelvin movies. Before Shatner's weight started to rise, he was in good shape but not bully.

I think, physically, from the neck down, Paul Wesley is fine. From the neck up, he looks like Jim Carrey. As far as charisma, he was totally lacking. He is my least favorite of the three official actors to play Adult Kirk

I suppose I should reserve judgement until we see prime universe Kirk.

 

I felt Wesley wasn't very convincing as Kirk, part of that was the dialogue but then again Ethan Peck is not doing a Leonard Nimoy impersonation either. I think that's where you get into some sketchy stuff, performance wise, when you are doing a dramatic show but impersonating an actor.

 

Ethan Peck isn't selling me on Spock either. He's far to "rat-tat-tat" and robotic in his delivery. He may be doing well delivering this version of Spock, but it doesn't land with me. He's the least interesting "official" version of Spock I've seen yet.

 

Oh, Peck is so Spock now. Not missing Nimoy in the slightest. Nor Quinto, TBH.

 

Peck's Spock is it's own thing, IMHO he's playing it "younger" than he should just 5 years before TOS but I allow it. Ruin that young Vulcan boy, Christine.

 

Peck is not expected to be the TOS Spock until ~2264-2266. Not certain he will get there by then

 

That's okay. Even 2265 Spock isn't the same as 2266-69 Spock.

 

"The Cage" Spock is also nothing like SNW Spock.

 

Spock clearly has a turbulent evolution from 2252 to 2266 and even in regular TOS episodes he hardens and becomes more Vulcan as the episodes progress.

 

Clearly he was kidnapped and replaced by a doppelganger.

 

One that liked to make his eyebrows point even higher and liked high velcro collars.

 

Spock was smoking the plomeek a lot during the events of the Cage

 

Authorities say the phony Spock can be recognized by his high top sneakers, and incredibly foul mouth.

 

He also has this vocal fascination with some group called THE WOMEN.

 

He was fighting the urge of Pon Farr at that moment.

 

Do we know how many appearances he will make in S3?

 

We don’t even know how many appearances Pike will make.

 

The funny thing is, somewhere out there is a person watching whose first exposure to the character of James Kirk, is Paul Wesley's interpretation. And for that person, watching Shatner and Pine, the characterization of Kirk is going to seem off to them.
