So as long as this was all you ate for three days, you'd be... "fine"? :wtf:

Ah well, moot point for me anyway, I guess.

I'm like 180 pounds, and if I spend the entire day in bed, I would burn more than 2000 calories.

The 2000 calorie thing is total BS. Especially for men, it's the number for completely sedentary thin people. Nobody who buys processed foods hits those numbers. If you're a normal weight male who goes for walks now and then, 2500-3000 is a much more reasonable calorie amount.

Welll... not all calories are equal. 6,000 calories of candy isn't going to have the same nutritional value as 6,000 calories of "well-balanced meals."

Also I got a giant gummy bear once to try it. Not that big, more like six inches tall. But it wasn't the same stuff as small gummy bears. The gummy material was hard to chew, even in smaller pieces cut off.

OK then, I guess for you, you'd only have to stretch it over the span of two days! ;)

Of course, that's why "fine" was in quotation marks. :)

The point was just that it struck me as a ridiculously large amount of candy, consisting of someone's full caloric allotment for three (or two!) full days, for what is technically a single (overly large) "piece" of candy. Unless you were planning to split it with a large number of people, or eat it over the course of a month or something, I wasn't sure why someone would actually want one... other than the novelty, of course, which I'm assuming is actually its sole raison d'être.

Although I do think it would have been funnier if they had made "the world's largest gummy bear" in the shape of an actual bear! :)

2000 calories is well below the resting burn rate of an average weight American male. They got that 2000 calorie benchmark based on what a person of ideal weight and average height burns if they never get more exercise than maybe a 15 minute walk after lunch.

For people who either exercise or are overweight and trying to lose weight, the arbitrary 2000 calorie number leads people into starvation/binge cycles.

True. It's affected by age, sex, weight, and activity level. For instance, a 35-year-old male who weighs 250 pounds and exercises moderately each day will need to ingest about 2800 cal. each day to maintain his weight. If he wants to lose a pound a week, he should reduce this to 2300.

My first thought on reading this was (given your apparent location), whether you had any unique access to "Black Forest" brand gummies.
Then I looked them up and discovered that's strictly an American brand, owned by an American company. :sigh:

A few years ago, my company had an unofficial "Gummy Bear taste test", where they put eight brands of gummies into little cups and had you vote for your favorite. It's surprising how different some of them are from each other. Not just flavor, but softness, texture, chewability, etc.

I need to try out Mrs. Silvercrest on that.

I'm afraid not. I can barely cite what the brands were. Haribo, Black Forest, Brachs, not sure what else.

Well, I know Black Forest is pretty good. Safeway also stocks some really good ones, but they don't say what brand.

People who come up to a supermarket checkout lane and pay for their order by just dumping a load of coins in the checker's lap. :brickwall:

It's at times like this that I wish more stores would have the guts to simply stop accepting cash.

I have this big procedure on Monday. I have to stay healthy. I had to go to the hospital to get a covid test to show I don't have ti and then I have to stay at home until Monday when I get this done. My 3rd tube down throat for this darn ulcer that just won't go away and leave me alone. Well, bad luck for us, my husband has covid. He tested positive for it last night. I don't have it so far. But I staying at home so I won't get it and I have someone at home who has it. But the doctor said they would still do the procedure as long as I test that I don't have it. But what timing...:( My poor hubby is pretty sick right now with sore throat, couch and fever. We are doing our best in our very small house to keep me from getting covid. Life just throws things at a person!

Well given that the US has one of the highest average weights for people it's hardly surprisng that the resting calorie burn rate is higher. Not that the UK is much better when it comes to average weights.

But the 2000 calorie figure is just a benchmark figure, if you have a more active lifestyle/job you'll likely need to consume more, a less active lifestyle/job might mean you need to consume less. Not to mention as others have mention age. height and other factors come into play.

I'm below average height and if I were to guess my daily calorie intake it's likely to be in thw 2500-3000 range. But I'm within the right weight range for my age, height and gender.

Oh MAN! That sucks. I hope you stay COVID free, and you get to have your procedure done.

Life is really throwing crap at you. Do your best to duck, bob and weave.

    Hang in there!

If you have my dad’s luck, you’ll dodge it. He stayed away from me when I had it, and was still able to do his stent procedure. If you have separate bedrooms and aren’t doing so already, stay in that separate bedroom. Use separate bathrooms if you can and mask up. And make sure you’re drinking plenty.
As for frustrations, I’ll add, “getting used to different medicines” to that list.

Up until my wife lost her sense of taste, we weren't isolating and she was even breathing down my neck at night. I think using a CPAP help prevent me from getting it. I then took to sleeping on a recliner in the living room and we ate separately with mask wearing at other times.
Knock on wood, I've remained COVID free so far.
