A possible silver lining in all this is I feel like this guy might want to make a very commercial Superman movie. Accessible, crowd-pleasing, fun. Zaslav clearly doesn't have a creative or artistic cell in his body, but if he thinks it'll make money, that's what he'll do. And Superman done right should be a license to print money. All you have to do is let him be who he is, instead of trying to make him into something he's not.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he knows the Christopher Reeve version of Superman and only that version. I really think they are just going to try and copy the MCU--so we will get the Chris Evans version of Superman and the Thor version of Aquaman, etc.

    Excellent starting points, IMO.

Not if they just copy what was done in the past without bringing anything new to it. Bryan Singer tried that with Superman Returns and it was deeply disappointing. You don't succeed by copying a past success, but by bringing the same kind of freshness and individual voice that made it succeed in the first place.

And execs who are purely businesspeople instead of creative people generally fail to understand that.

Oh, he tried to bring something new to it, all right. It just wasn't anything any fan of Superman ever wanted to see.

Just draw the diamond --- don't even add an S or color it red...just about every kids will know what that means.

They could have STARTED with the Justice League, and then followed up with a Superman movie very quickly, then with a movie about a breakout character (Wonder WOman in this case), then followed up with a Batman if needed but see who is the next break out from JL2, and keep it moving.

But instead we got what we got....

Actually, he DID bring a few things -- just sabotaged them later on.

My biggest example -- Martha teaching Clark to control his powers.... he reminded me of therapy for special needs kids.... Our follow-up to that is years later Martha has a "Get Off My Lawn"/"Screw Them All attitude". What COULD have solidified the DCFU Clark as one with a hero attitude -- Have Clark visit Martha as she is wrapping up with a client -- she reminds him how working with him inspired her to become a therapist, and he says "Mom, you're my hero". That little thing could have done wonders to help us think of Cavill as "classic" Superman.

Or JOnathan Kent challenging Clark at 12 about what kind of man will he choose to be. THAT scene was awesome and foundational... but then he dies saving a dog. Did NOT feel like a heroic death or or anything that built on earlier JOnathan.

They did try to do that. Another one of those scrapped movies.

I liked Jonathan in that movie up until the point where he chose to sacrifice himself for the dog and told Clark not to save him. It was nice to see a Jonathan without all the answers, but he could also have been a great example in the way he led his personal life--and the movie could have shown Jonathan's journey to embracing Clark's powers and helping him learn to be a hero. You know, like the character has done for decades.

As much as I hate George Miller's work in general, Justice League: Mortal would have been a lot better then what we got if it matched the details that have leaked out over the years. Imagine getting a JL film with a roster based on the DCAU cartoon (minus Hawkgirl) instead of the new 52 Justice League roster, and with a story apparently loosely based on JLA: Tower of Babel. It might have been great, it might have been a 2 hour sleep aid like Fury Road, but either way I'm sure it would have been more interesting (and probably just better) then either version of Justice League that we got.

Sorry to say that I think this is the definite end of Restore the Snyderverse with the way all this is going.

That would be basically re-shooting an entire movie.
Taking Keaton out of anything would be madness.

He was already removed from Aquaman prior to this, wasn't he?

Only because Aquaman is coming out before The Flash. Originally The Flash was coming out first which is why Keaton was in Aquaman. But now it's Ben Affleck because the events of The Flash movie have not yet happened. It wouldn't make sense to have Keaton show up.

I was never a fan of Keaton's Batman or Burton's Batman for that matter. But it would have been cool to see Keaton in a few films before passing the torch to a Dick Grayson actor. Grant Morrison's Dick Grayson Batman was a great character and it is a shame that DC didn't turn Bruce Wayne into the 21st century Barry Allen.

The DCEU has its own, strong voice and should not--under any circumstances--copy the MCU, including Chris Evans, who presented a character that was the polar opposite of what Superman was intended to be (which was not the oft-abused, misapplied "boy scout" description). As established, he (Superman) was coming into his own / dealing with trying to fit into humanity (which is how the character should be handled, not having him winking and grinning as if he was your Daddy/camp counselor).

Further, Singer already tried to resurrect the Donner version, copying characterization beat for beat and it was a dreary failure. The world has moved on from Reeve and is not looking back, just as in 1989, no one was looking back for a revival of West's Batman.

Dwayne Johnson was right on point when he said Cavill's version is the Superman of this generation (and its certainly not whatever 1978 throwback bumbler act Hoechlin is using on the anything-but-Superman and Lois).

    Same here.

Keaton is supposed to be in a different universe / reality, so he--and any would-be successors end up having little impact on the main DCEU films. Like Silver Age Earth II stories, they exist, but were not the main driver of the universe.. As noted yesterday, Keaton would be served best if he takes up the costume for one, last time, leading to his death, and some sense of satisfaction that his work meant something, which does not necessarily mean passing his Bat I.D. to another.

"As established" refers to MOS, hence the reason the statement began with DCEU, not the Reeve version--which the world left behind in the comment on Singer's mess.

Gotcha, I read that wrong, my apologies. Yup, they did stick with the tone they originally set out for an established. But in defence of Hoechlin, he's not doing a Reeve impression and his interpretation of the character is just as valid as Cavill's. They're also at two completely different points in their lives, one just beginning and one more settled and comfortable where he's at.
