    Well, a lot to unpack.

    For now...10.

So out of a possible 100, SNW gets 100.

Pike: It's over Batel. Frankly, I don't even call you by your first name. Wasn't much of a "relationship" at all apparently.

Batel: You? You're history. You are no longer my boyfriend. You have been... replaced!!!!

    Kirk:

Pike: You got to be kidding me.

This episode cuts two ways: they do their little genuflection to Kirk being some kind of extra-special awesome, while simultaneously demonstrating at every turn just how limited TOS was in every respect when compared to this series.:rommie:

The key difference is that by obtaining the time crystal from Borath, Pike locked himself in a predestination scenario. Picard didn't.

Pretty sure we see warp capable shuttles in "The Menagerie" and "Metamorphosis" .
Yeah, I was feeling it either. I attribute it to Kirk leading a different life in this time line.

Nope. Not all ships do. Like these non Enterprise guys

There's no way Kirk and the projected image of Mendez weren't in a warp-capable shuttlecraft from Starbase 11. They tailed the Enterprise for a good distance until they ran out of fuel to continue the chase, and no sublight shuttle is even remotely going to give the Enterprise worries.

I completely blanked on the fact that Commander Hanson Al-Salah was played by Ali Hassan! Been listening to his work on the radio, both as comedian and journalist, for years!

If anything this episode proves Pike didn't actually. He can shove off those bad events onto other people. He just doesn't want to.

Ahhhhh fuck it all. This gets a 10/10.

No need for an in-depth analysis or any such thing. I don’t even care. It’s just awesome.

With the shaved head he could pass for Captain Robau. Wonder if we can get Robau back with the mention of the USS Kelvin.

I give this episode an 8. Here's why:

    1) No Himmer. Sad face.
    2) Ortegas was acting...odd. In fact, the only character that wasn't acting odd was La'an, and how she behaved was uncharacteristically...odd. If that makes any sense.
    3) No Dr. McCoy!
    4) Still not feeling the new Jim Kirk. Maybe he will grow on me...
    5) Uhura should have had a different hairstyle in this "future".

Other than that, the episode was interesting. Here, we have a situation where there is predetermination. Essentially, Pike locks himself in a predestination scenario, and no matter what happens, bad things happen. However, that doesn't mean that the flow of the timeline can't be adjusted. Under the rules governing Time, thanks to DOCTOR WHO, some events are "bendable", while others "cannot be broken". I suspect that Pike will accept HIS fate, but will use his foreknowledge to help his comrades.

    And there you go.

It's a Monster Maroon that only exists in the timeline created by Pike's mistakes at the Neutral Zone. Sigh.

After this episode, how this series meshes with TOS is pretty clear.

Very clever concept. Maybe a bit heavy handed at certain moments, but overall very well done.

Not sure about the guy who played Kirk: certainly not bad, but…well, just not sure.

Nicely done, and a solid set-up for next season.

I’d say this was the best first season of Star Trek since TOS.
