2260 would be the 100th anniversary of the end of the Earth-Romulan War and the Star Empire's retreat into isolation.

Very nice review, but the commentary on the contemporary U.S. political situation in Pike's presentation seemed to bypass you completely, much like the term "Number One" being long-established British Royal Navy terminology for a ship's Executive Officer, rather than Pike's personal pet nickname for Una, did.

I don’t know anything about American politics.
My point with Una is that she is replaceable and therefore might not be the same Number One as we see in ‘The Cage’.

I only know about Star Trek ranks sorry, I’m not so familiar with army or navy ranks. If Number One is British then why is Pike using it as a title? As far as I know it is *not* an official Star Trek rank. Picard used it as a pet name for Riker. I think that Jellico used this title too. Shelby was never ‘Number One’. Picard’s dog was called ‘Number One’…. This proves that it *is* also a pet name. :D

Picard used it because it was one traditonal way to refer to a ship's second-in-command, as is "exec" or "first."

"I'm not familiar with it" is not synonymous with "it's obscure."

More a nickname, but a longstanding naval tradition for "executive officer" or "first officer." Incidentally, that is part of the origin of "first lieutenant."

Why would Pike use it? Naval tradition. Pike used it with Una and with La'an when the later served as his executive officer.

Maybe La’an is Pike’s Number One by the time of ‘The Cage’?

Given the Cage happens in SNW/Discovery's past that would be quite the trick.
