I personally preferred Pulaski in the show.

Dang, don't you hate it when that happens? You step into the elevator, and it's not there...

I take it the safeties were off on the holodeck when she fell. I must've missed this episode.

Not half as much as when you try to step off the elevator and the ship's not there.

There's a jokey theory that this is also what happened to Pulaski; she stepped into the turbolift door, but there was no cabin.

I heard about that before I found out about Rosalind, and didn't get the reference.

I don't even know who that Rosalind person is or remember what show she's from, I just read it ion some Star Trek fansite back when those were still a thing.
That her character was apparently unpopular on that show too, and so some people like to think Pulaski died in a similar fashion.

I can see why some people had issues with her. Data was popular, and she apparently had issues with Data. But even early on, she was starting to evolve... concentrating on using Data's name properly, for instance.

I still think hat it was less an "evolution" as much, as the writers realizing that that particular part of her character didn't work.

And, as I told you before, my problem with her is not primarily her treatment of Data, I just don't like her character and personality.

On a show as static as TNG, you have to take what you can get.

Fair enough. I liked her fine.

Even though Pulaski seemed more assertive, Crusher also didn't exactly have problems with self-confidence:

If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

Exactly, she had a more gentle demeanour and usually didn't show her "assertive" side until it was necessary. But whenever it became necessary Dr.Crusher showed her confidence.

That was a clever way to finally make the pronunciation official. All throughout the 1st season the promotional advertisements had the voice person either pronounce Data's name differently. Not sure if it confused viewers but once Pulsaki was on board she would be the springboard to finally end the dispute.

I think Pulaski was more believable, but I grew to love Dr. Crusher (in a platonic way), so I guess I still like Crusher better, even though I preferred the character they gave Pulaski... does that make sense?
Pulsaki's prejudices gave her more depth of character, IMHO. And the whole thing between Crusher and Picard made my skin crawl, and yet, I hated seeing her with anyone else. So maybe its a love/hate relationship I have with her? Like maybe she just grew on me? Don't know. But I was fine with no-nonsense Pulaski her whole run.

I liked Dr. Pulaski a bit more, because I found her more interesting as a character.

I really liked Pulaski. She added that bit of seasoning that the rest of the crew desperately needed, and is a big part of the reason Season 2 was my favorite. (I also really loved Commander Shelby for the same reason; she shook things up a bit).

I didn't dislike Crusher, but never felt like she added much to the show. The writers tried hard to give her moments to shine in The High Ground, in Descent, in Sub Rosa (I know, I know...), Remember Me, in All Good Things, and others... But mostly she was just sorta there filling the role and doing the deeds that any other doctor would do in the same situations. I think the writers just didn't know what to do with her, and as a result created a nice, kind, successful, steady, reliable, plain, boring person who curls up with a good book at night. She's an ideal spouse and parent, but not a great protagonist in a drama series.

I think that you have the right of it, more or less. I see Beverly treating her patients, tending to her lab projects, caring for her flowers, and yes, cuddling up with a good book. And yes, she got some nice stuff to do in "Ethics" and "Remember Me". But Pulaski was just more memorable.

I liked Crusher better mainly because she comes across nicer. And she was more understanding of Data. Though, in time Pulaski did treat him more like a person and less like a machine. Also the whole "non romance" or not quite there, just under enough, with Picard. It helped to lighten him up a bit as well.

Crusher. She was way hotter, and she washer own person. Pulaski was just a female Dr. McCoy.
