Fortunately only 0.1% of the board will want to be represented by his views.

Anyway, I'm just stoked to have Sybok back. I don't even love the character that much, I just get a kick out of ST5 not being ignored. :)

Well, I wasn't upset ... you and your pals were because I dropped a line you didn't like. You could as well have ignored it!

My take was that it was simply a joke between friends.

Even if we take it literally it could well be that there is a section on personality/peer evaluation and one of the admirals (April maybe?) described him as such

Ignoring bigotry makes one complicit in it and perpetuates it. It should be called out and corrected at every opportunity.

    Favorite scenes:

    1. Spock throwing down! Neck pinches! Tossing a fool across the bridge!

    2. Spock and Chapel burning up the bridge with that kiss!

I do like this version of Spock a lot.

I found the character fascinating and Luckinbill's performance excellent even in a thoroughly subpar movie (even though there are many parts I enjoy), but I'm very much looking forward to seeing how they will expand on his backstory and relationship with Spock and now the space pirate. Maybe they can even bring back Sarek from DSC.

Back on topic: Sybok better have the Big Beard Energy we're expecting after 33 years of not seeing the character. Even if his telepathic powers are still rudimentary I hope he's just as convinced of the righteousness of his beliefs as he will be almost 28 years later.

That was so badass to finally get to see the raw strength of Vulcans in a full on throwdown.

It was as cool as when Chewie went apeshit from Han getting killed in The Force Awakens and just unleashed the furry.

With Sybok being the laughing Vulcan, I wonder how much they're going to try and position him as Spock's Joker. Or at least his Moriarty. Although I guess he's more technically his Mycroft, but that doesn't really work for what I'm going for. ;)
Pretty much where I sit too.

Just a little play on words due to Chewie's hirsute nature.;)

Why don't ALL OF YOU give it a fucking rest? Especially the moderators who ought to be above this shit, not prolonging it, instigating it, and contributing further to derailing the thread? Take it to PM's, for crissake!

Honestly everyone here has been very polite - it is only the rules of the board relating to the use of certain language that I'm sure has prevented many (including me) from saying how they really feel.

You have the freedom to speak however you want in the privacy of your own home. On this board, however, it is a privately owned space and there will have been discussions held regarding what the core views of the board are - no racism, no discrimination against LGBT+ people, no sexism.

Your distaste at the use of LGBT people within Trek has been deemed to be in breach of this and so you have been called out for it. You may not see your views as being meant in the way they have been interpreted but considering the number of people who disagree then taking a breather before trying to rearticulate may be for the best.

Angel's identity was only relevant in terms of relating to Spock and creating a point of commonality.

Adira's identity mattered for all of 30 seconds when they were first introduced to establish that was their preferred pronoun but other than that the key element of the character has been to "complete" the Culber-Stamets family, to lead them to Fed HQ and to be a bit of a modern Wesley (not being derogatory, just the young wunderkind type who finds solutions that bail them out).

Grey's actor's identity as a trans person has not factored in to his character at all (to my knowledge). You could argue that he didn't serve a great purpose but being a residual memory of the trill symbiont for Adira, helping solve the Burn issue when the holodeck converted the remaining presence into a hologram after scanning Adira's mind, and being a link to Picard means he has done something.

Their representation is in the same way that casting Tom Paris was to represent straight white men, Micheal Burnham as straight black women, and Jeri Ryan representing horn dogs behind the scenes and in the fan base - it is immaterial to the character and is simply a case of trans people, white people, black people, horny people and many many more exist and so why shouldn't they be there

    That's how I interpreted it.

Per the transcript website the line is

I see why Starfleet calls you their Boy Scout.

    Read more at: https://tvshowtranscripts.ourboard.org/viewtopic.php?f=1328&t=54015

Phrased this way it seems more like a nickname ("he's our Boy Scout") than a membership ("he's a Boy Scout").
