I wonder if Kenobi asking Leia to pretend that she is his daughter/granddaughter is a reference to all those theories about Rey back in the day.
There's that and I thought the same thing when Obi-Wan was making his dinner and then eating outside his cave like Rey with the AT-AT. Not to mention how they both wound up burying Anakin''s saber in the sand.
Incredible, absolutely incredible. - Young Leia running around five years after the Ahsoka novel and 10 years prior to Star Wars is exactly how I pictured it, down to the the interior and the windows. There wasn't a fish tank, but I didn't quite expect her to be so... Leia. - I didn't expect we would see new scenes on Coruscant, or Alderaan in its full glory (even if I asked for it). I'm still hoping Andor might show imperial Coruscant, and the Mandalorian or Ahsoka – Coruscant in ruin. Unlikely, but hopeful. - We wanted Temura Morrison to play a clone. Nice cameo. The mixed feelings in Obi-Wan that must have been. Cody will be a small universe to appear, I suppose, but he got to see a familiar face that is surely to haunt him. - I am loving that Obi-Wan is more or less TLJ's Luke playing the role of TFA's Rey on Jakku through and through, down to the food mechanics and telling everyone to beat it. Beautiful troll. - Obi-Wan cut himself off from the Force? They only just did that in the High Republic era, and I don't know if it has been a thing anywhere else – I don't think even Luke did that, at least not that explicitly. But it gave me chills. And why his communing with Qui-Gon didn't work and his shooting was that off, and he didn't even think to use his light-sabre. But seeing him struggle to save Leia like a padawan in training, like Luke lifting a rock... - I thought Haja was to betray Obi-Wan given how excited he was to find a Jedi, but with @JD suggesting his contact is a Rebel, now it makes more sense. Obi-Wan and Leia may actually run into the Rebellion next week? Which would explain how she got involved in it, and make me wish for some unwise very small universe appearances to happen. I will enjoy them, silly as it would be if they were to happen. But they are wiser than that. - A Satine reference, that somehow managed to evoke Anakin and Padmé before that, because Leia was indeed acting like the bunch of them. That tiny little scene made me think of everything, from ROTJ to Clone Wars. Oh, there's got to be a flashback with Satine and a non-destroyed Mandalore somewhere, given how these shows have been; perhaps Vader will mention her to hurt Obi-Wan. - While not enamoured by the individual inquisitors yet (not to mention that the Grand Inquisitor could have looked more like a ROTS Pau'an, and been played by Lorca), I'm liking them as the merciless hand of persecution, the unsung danger to Luke and Leia, and what they did between uncle Owen and Obi-Wan. Great background to “Star Wars”. - Breaking it to Obi-Wan that Anakin was alive was something. The denial on his face as realisation was growing when he heard Lord Vader.
I thought it worked pretty well. It really showed how far he had fallen by that point More or less adorbs than Grogu? And do we think that is what they're going for (esp if Leia really is in all 6 episodes)?
So far so good. I loved the scene when obi wan is buying the jacket for Leia and she also pretty much demands gloves and gets them. Lol
I love everything about little Leia. She's the best thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise since Baby Yoda.
Yeah. The little actress has captured the character perfectly. She was pretty much telling Obi Wan what he was doing wrong just like she'll do to Luke and Han later. Lol
I had always assumed that Obi Wan was already aware of Vader/Anakin being alive.... That was a shock. He clearly heard the Anakin being refered to as Lord Vader in the security hologam in ROTS, and I just assumed the name Lord Vader was known throughout the galaxy by this point, as one of the Emperor's men. That scene really chilled me through my bones, the look on Obi Wan's face. As for the rest of the show...... It's just amazing.
I think I went into this up thread (or in another thread, so much star wars the last few days, I loose track!) but I've always preferred the notion that Vader was . . . if not a state secret exactly, but certainly not the Empire's poster boy. Remember that the first thing to go in a totalitarian state is a free press. Empire like to control information, just like everything else, so they're unlikely to be disseminating reports on his activities. Maybe during the actual Civil War he becomes more notorious, though even then more likely due to Rebel propaganda than Imperial. So yeah, I find it perfectly natural that while even living in a literal cave Ben has heard of Inquisitors, but no mention of Darth Vader.
I really hope they do more with Leia -- in a greater sense. I would really like to see her in the Mando era. I hope the would-be reason they're holding back on using the character is not because they want to string out CGI Hammy for as long as they can't and are afraid that a recast Leia opposite would cause a ruckus. Because, IMO, in that era specifically right up to a few months before Ben goes rogue, Luke's story just isn't that interesting. OTOH, there's so much story potential with Leia in that era, even if it wouldn't be the traditional Star Wars fare.
That makes a lot of sense really. Whatever the reason though, it gave us a beautiful that wasn't overplayed. And that final shot of Vader.....
Add to that, in ANH how did Leia know that Obi Wan was on Tatooine, that he would be any hope at all much less their only hope, or even that he existed at all? This show is a story that needs telling.
Well, Bail knew he was there, and according to Rogue One he's the one that send Leia to Tattooine. A line about sending someone he trusts, and he trusts her with his life. It could very well be that this show establishes that she knew as well, but even if it doesn't, there is already a reason.
And, you know, I've seen people say that them meeting is a canon violation because it makes the "You served my father in the clone wars..." statement seem odd. But I think it's a super easy headcanon. She has to let Obi know that the grown woman in the holo is the little girl he once knew, but she's smart enough not to divulge any info about their relationship that the Imps don't already know, should the message be intercepted.
Did you watch ANH? It's all in the message. "General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope." Bail explicitly sent her to Tatooine to extract Obi-Wan, presumably along with instructions, co-ordinates, homing frequencies etc. for exactly where on Tatooine to find him. Also note, R2 insisted on going towards the jundland wastes *twice*; once right after getting away from the pod, and once again after fleeing the homestead, so presumably he had that information too. Whether that also meant grabbing Luke is of course open to interpretation. When the movie was made of course, Luke & Leia were not siblings, but retroactively one could infer that Bail intended for Luke to be extracted too, at Kenobi's discretion.
As for "cutting yourself off from the Force", whilst it did originate in the Old Republic stories, Cere Junda in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game (set around this time period) did likewise after calling on the Dark Side when she discovered what had become of her Padawan. It's implied that the protagonist - Cal Kestis - has weakened in his ability to use the Force due to being in hiding so long and has to re-learn a lot of abilities he used to have.
