I'll just say that one of this show's magic tricks so far is effortlessly convincing me that these people are the same ones from the original series. I buy Gooding and Peck in these roles completely, which wasn't the case with Saldana and Quinto, no matter how good they were. I don't mind at all if their characterization and the events we see in this show carry the characters in directions that don't perfectly align with the original. To me, they're already these people.

Fair enough, and certainly these things do go both ways.

Quinto and saldana were alternate versions of the characters. Just think they are also better at acting. Peck has taken some flack for his acting skills when he was on gossip girl but celia came from Broadway. She should be a bit better.

Ah the Harvey Weinstein gender reversal trick. Absolute bullshit. I was alluding to the idea that any assertiveness on the part of a woman is regularly deemed too aggressive or domineering, whether in work or in matters of her own sexuality. Have you even seen the so called "flirtation" scene yet? You seem to be making a lot of assumptions about the character from her initial introduction and a few lines out of context. I am happy to see her not be a doormat.

Personally and so far I find Ethan Peck a better Spock than Zachary Quinto was. Everybody has their own opinions and views. Mine is just one fan's opinion.

I don't know anything about this "reversal trick" you're talking about and was just genuinely stating what I thought. For what it's worth and just to be clear for this forum's record, I completely and unreservedly condemn Weinstein and his crimes and don't really appreciate a post trying to associate me with him, albeit I'll just let it slide now because this conversation apparently has gotten pretty emotional it seems.

Ethan Peck does a better job at channeling Spock acting-wise - his posture, his tone, the use of his voice.

Quinto abso-fucking-lutely looks like Nimoy to a degree that's uncanny.

Though Peck not running around, yelling, crying, shouting, punching and kicking people in the face in pure anger and rage also definitely helps conveying the Spock-persona...

Seems a bit harsh. We've barely seen Celia in the show. 2 short clips from episode 2 and a few lines in episode 1.

    Quinto nailed Spock.

Peck still has a lot to learn.

    All in my opinion.

The gender (race) reversal consideration is kind of standard tactical maneuver these days. But you've finished up nicely with the "pretty emotional" so there's me put in my place. Chef's kiss.

So people need to chill as I said this is just a clip
. Agreed. Peck seems he is always trying to act. Quinto is more natural

I cracked open Enterprise: The First Adventure by Vonda McIntyre the other day, and found — to my pleasant surprise — that I was hearing and seeing Ethan Peck as Spock. Clearly, he's working very well for me!

We will have an angry Spock episode. They work really well.

Not really fair to compare movies to tv in terms of story telling and what the character does. However we can easily judge acting. I am on trekmovie and I see some of the sentiment I feel about peck also there that his acting is not coming off natural.
Many say some of the best part about star trek beyond was spock and bones dynamic. Played well by quinto and Karl urban. I think peck spock would have struggled to balance that same same kind of dynamic with Karl urban.

Not only that, they’ve said that he will be closer in his character from “The Cage” than to “Amok Time.”

Im not sure that’s a fair comparison either.

It is. because what we will be comparing is the acting range of an actor and quinto has more range. I am sorry but even in the first episode with tpring, peck spock lacked tenderness in those scenes with his soon to be wife. His delivery felt scripted. A far cry from quinto spock who always showed tenderness with the kelvin uhura and still could come off vulcan.

Funny that that clip is uhura making a joke and we did not bother to laugh. There were many laughing moments with quinto spock because some of his reactions to stuff were legit funny like when he told Pike that the complexity of humans pranks escapes him. After Pike promoted kirk to first officer in the 2009 film.

    So what?

Uh...no. Quinto's an okay actor. He is not a "leading movie actor," although that does describe Saldana. He manages to do better than impersonate Nimoy, which puts him a cut above Urban who, much as I like him, is still doing an impersonation of DeForest Kelley With Roid Rage.

But Peck's already been more interesting than Quinto, and that continues with tomorrow night's episode.
