Well there are SOOO many hate reviews by angry bearded men, and they’re all trying to ‘outdo’ each other in who hates NuTrek the most…. I wouldn’t mind if there is no linking to any of them….

I finally got to watch the ep.

Wow. They knocked it out of the park. THIS is the Trek I've been waiting for since 1971.

I really liked it. But don’t think it was the be-all, end-all that a lot of people do. A solid 8/10 (or 3 I suppose) and the best “live action” plot of the Kurtzman era. I’d still put it behind LD and maybe Prodigy.

The thing with Kirk’s bother was done way too cutesy.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen Amok Time but didn’t Spock say he hadn’t seen T’Pring since they were both children? I guess “almost screwing” doesn’t count. But I may be wrong.

Rotten Tomatoes still has it as 100% out of 30 reviews, FYI. This is a Trek that so far deserves its stellar reviews!

Kurtzman does a lot better without Orci. Agree?

But in "The Cage" Pike says he is still getting used to women on the bridge.

And how come Spock doesn't shout "The Women"?

And where is the bridge paper printer?

And all that you've stated is nothing more than a form of self-flagellation brought on by feelings of misspent guilt. We weren't there to make the decision to drop the atom bomb. And make no mistake: the Axis Powers would have had no compunction in dropping the bomb on any of the Allied Powers. It just that, in this reality, the Allies beat the Axis to the punch. Besides, I would venture to say that because of what happened to end the war, that act is what is preventing the use of nuclear weapons today as an option. We seen the horrors, both on human lives and the environment, which is why, again, I seriously doubt that nuclear weapons will ever be used in this day and age.

BTW? The fire-bombings caused by the Americans during the war caused more civilian deaths than did the two nuclear weapons, and the Japanese government under General Tojo refused to budge. Go figure.

M'Benga says "I received your orders, Captain" to Pike after they hug and greet. We didn't see Pike give any orders, so it's safe to assume some time has passed between the "Let's go see the doctor" scene and this one. But I agree it could've been handled better.

Sure we do. Because once Japan surrendered, we were right there helping them rebuild their cities. We knew first hand the human and societal cost of what we did. Plus, we today weren't the ones that made that decision, it has been nearly eighty years since the event happened.

I'm not interested in constantly being punished for the choices or mistakes of my ancestors, I only hope I can learn from them.

Now that I've got Crave for SNW I've started watching DSC S4 and PIC S2... and now I can see the vast difference in tone between the Trek I wanted, and the Trek I got in the last few years. SNW's first episode is hopeful and bright, compared to the much darker, somber tone of the other two series.

I'm also giving LD and PRO a go, though I think the former really isn't for me.

I wasn't expecting to like it much, but it quickly grew on me after the first couple of episodes.

I quickly fell in love with Lower Decks, even though I was sure it wasn't for me in the lead up to the show. I'm more interested by far in the story they are telling right now than anything Discovery or Picard have done.

I found LD entertaining, but unless TV cartoons are fairly visually experimental or have really off-the-wall humor they bore me. I enjoyed the five or so LD episodes I watched last year and have had no curiosity about it since.

    Prodigy? Nickelodeon kiddie hour. Pass.

I suspect it is a universal trait, but sometimes it feels uniquely American how we can hold ourselves as greater evils than others by default. American exceptionalism has to mean we're exceptionally bad, too.

The dropping of the nukes on Japan was a monstrous act that was probably unjustifiable. But "America" didn't do it, especially not in perpetuity. The leadership of the government and military ordered it. Other people carried it out. I doubt BillJ and I agree on much, but feeling endless guilt about the acts of your forebears is useless. Being cognizant of those actions, learning from them, and avoiding the same pitfalls is what we should do. And to say we cannot comment on something because of historical wrongs is ridiculous. Are we supposed to ignore any German about the rise of fascism, like say in the United States or Russia, because Hitler? If so, how many centuries does that last? How much German do you have to be to qualify as guilty of Germany's sins?

    You're completely wrong about that.

It's made for everyone, not just kids. Don't dismiss it right away, it does Trek good. Just check out the subforum.

The second to last episode of Season 2 is probably the best episode of the series, and season finale is probably the second best.
