I’m hopeful season three will be entertaining but I’m still going to miss the hell out of Rios and Jurati. Less so Elnor but still…

They produced season 3 back to back with season 2, which is not good news if you weren't a fan of season 2...

They're two separate stories, so I'm not sure why producing them back to back would mean that.

Because it makes it more likely that the bad writing habits shown in season 2 will continue on in season 3.

So now that season 2 is over I have a couple of questions about it:

Was the whole point of sending Picard & friends to the alternate timeline (and then the past) was because Q wanted Picard to help make the right decision when Picard returned to the future? If so, what exactly was Picard doing penance for? How did Picard create that alternate timeline when it was Q himself who sent Picard to there? I'm really confused on that.

How can a Q die (other than intentionally wanting to die as we saw in that VOY episode "Death Wish")? Did John de Lancie Q intentionally want to die because he was bored of living like that other Q we saw in "Death Wish"?

What was that flash in the sky at the very end of the season 2 finale?

That was our hopes and dreams of a worthwhile season 3 exploding in the cold vacuum of space

I think what S3 is mostly going to have going for it is stability. Among other things, S1 suffered from tonal tug-of-war between Chabon and the producers, and S2 had Matalas wanting to do time travel, Goldman wanting to do a psychological dissection, and the producers wanting more Borg stuff, and I'm not sure it all meshed well, not to mention Matalas tapping out to do S3. It sounds like Matalas is going to have more freedom to do "his Star Trek" for S3, and he'll be around for all of it.

Season two was largely written under the direction of Akiva Goldsman, particularly episodes 5 to 10. Terry Matalas has stated he was only really involved in the first half of the season (the stronger half) and then he went off to work on season 3. Season 3 was 100% Matalas who was given total control of the direction of the season as Goldsman moved his focus onto being co-showrunner of SNW. Goldsman is something of an uneven writer IMHO. He has flashes of brilliance but has a long history of being less than successful in forming coherent narratives. I am optimistic that season 3 will be a noticeable improvement.

I'm not so sure. Worf was more gung ho about so called Klingons traditions more than Martok was in DS9's season 7. I don't think Worf really got it the last time we saw him. I don't think he was truly over the trauma of the Khitomer Massacre in Nemesis.

I always saw Worf as a bit autistic in a way. Growing up outside of Klingon culture, he took it both seriously and literally, while those raised Klingon took it seriously, but not literally.

Yeah. Worf actually doesn't know Klingons, even after spending time hunting Targs with Martok.

Good grief. At least in These Are the Voyages the Enterprise cast were actually in the episode, even if it was a complete disaster. This cast didn’t even get that much.

Jeez. Almost a clean sweep. Guess Raffi's lucky to be Seven's love interest.

I think there might be something more going on behind the scenes. In the Ready Room, Akiva Goldsman hinted this isn't the last we'e seen of Agnus and then in Variety (or Hollywood Reporter...I can't remember) he said the anomaly in the finale is foreshadowing something but not necessarily linked to season 3 of Picard...we know other spin-offs are in the works and possibly even a big crossover event.

I was wondering if a big saga wide crossover wasn’t the case with this setup,

A while back on twitter Matalas was asked what a Trek show he had control over would look like, or what's the Trek show that he would like to make (I forget the wording). He responded that it was Picard season 3.

It's also been reported through interviews and social media from people involved with the show that Terry pitched the time travel story and the psychological look at Picard's past was Akiva's idea. Doesn't mean it was a tug of war or conflict that couldn't have worked better though.

I have seen no source that the borg was the "producers" idea and could have been part of Terry's outline/pitch for the season or developed along with other writers. He wrote the premiere where the Borg Queen first appeared.
