watching it right now, it is going okay, although I did not like the spock and tpring scene. it seems of too rehashed too acted and too fake, I know they are Vulcans but i feel maybe the actors could have done better or the director directed them better.

the whole scene felt very CW especially when spock is wearing no shirt and he has to show is buff body, Peck reminded me too much of Henry Cavill's Superman.

Also the dialogue there when tpring said, he was about to get naked. urgh, that is something i heard on riverdale before i stopped watching. you can see from the first episode why spock and tpring did not end up together. they are just so unmatched and scripted and the writing is not helping.

Also I think now I can say it offically that Quinto was the better younger Spock, Quinto is just too much of a better and more experienced actor than Peck. It would have been amazing if Quinto was tv spock, he would have tore off the screen as he did when he was on Heroes.

Yes, Peck may have the voice, but Quinto had the presence of been more natural in the role and also the intimadating personal . Peck to me you can tell is acting in the role and maybe struggling a bit ?????

I dont like the ship (enterprise), it looks as if they are just reusing discovery and picard model and that sucks to me because one thing i hated about discovery star ship, they all looked too wide, too spacey and lacked warmth.

I will shut up now and keep watching.

I really liked her and their dynamic. But my liking has a tinge of sadness to it knowing it won't last. All in all, loving this iteration. Still apprehensive, but cautiously optimistic!

I was pretty tired when I watched last night but I think it was that the reason Kiley got warp tech is because they observed the battle with Control and since that battle officially never happened they can't punish Pike or acknowledge what went down.

Thanks. You're correct, though I'm now realizing I misinterpreted the original post for some reason and was asking a completely different question than I thought I was asking. In retrospect I had something else on my mind and was projecting it over his original comment.

Here's the thing I thought I was asking about:

At the end of "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II" Pike's still in command of the Enterprise and Spock is just now returning to duty freshly-shaven and they observe the final signal from Michael. Was there something in this episode that seemed to acknowledge that, or does it seem like it's been dismissed? It's not impossible to fit the two together, but it is an awkward fit.

To be clear, I consider "They didn't want to be hamstrung by that closing scene, so they just kind of ignored it (though 12 years from now a novel will probably try to sort it out)" an acceptable answer. But I am kind of curious if I missed something acknowledging it.

EDIT: My current assumption is that when Pike returned as captain the memories of Boreth hit him harder than he expected, and he took another leave shortly after. A little awkward, but it works.

    On Netflix it supposedly was.

No clue how accurate numbers are. But that was the report.

Overall, I really loved it. And do plan to watch it again tonight on my big TV. The one thing that I think might grow tiresome though, is if Pike keeps having "flash-forwards" about his accident. I get that he's got some FTSD going on here. Seeing one's fate will do that to you. I just hope it doesn't keep happening with such frequency, unless there's relevance to whatever is happening with the scene.

T'Pring makes me angry as knowing within the next seven years she's going to cheat on Spock and cause him to "kill" his best friend.

Watch out for those Gorn; You are alive when they start to eat you. Or when they implant you with eggs (that chest burst like in Aliens?) as a "breeding sack".

Sam Kirk, mustache and all. It's too bad he dies on Deneva from a pierogi monster. They're going to probably make him a fan-favorite recurring character too.

That would be the purpose of a prequel, yes.

There was direct reference to that in their conversation while going to the bridge from the transporter room after Pike beamed aboard.

First off, who made the poll 1 = excellent and 10 = terrible. 10 is always the top score. Get it right for next week.

I gave it an 8/10. It's a very strong episode. For me a 9 is a near classic and this episode wasn't quite there. However, considering this is a series premiere, it's probably the best ST series premiere in decades! I really loved it!

I enjoyed the characters, and the plot was suitably uplifting. I'm really looking forward to more episode. Only Nurse Chapel seemed to be not consistent with her TOS character. T'Pring seemed to be a perfect match for her TOS character, given her appearance and the little we know about her.

A few minor quibbles. There was a bit too much jokiness. Mind you, humor is fine, but jokiness not so much. Just a matter of refining that balance.

There just was not a transporter in sick bay of the Enterprise at this time. Also, intra-ship beaming was not done. So, stick with the timeline. Those really aren't hindrances for good story telling anyway. If someone has an emergency, have the doctor meeting them in the transporter room and wheel them frantically to sickbay. It can be part of the drama. Having an easy way out can dilute the drama.

I thought the Enterprise beauty shots at the beginning were a bit rushed! Minor I know!

Just try not to end up at a Gorn wedding.

Awesome, thank you. I'll watch it again and keep an ear open for it.

Yes it was. It was done once in TOS.
